MY WORK, MY STORY | WINNER 1 PRIZE HANDOVER

Today, the first winner of the HCRDA My Work, My Story campaign, Talent Sokhela, officially received his prize at HCRDA member PEP facility in Hammarsdale.

The campaign continues to highlight authentic stories of hope, resilience, and the meaningful impact employment opportunities have within our communities.
Speaking after receiving his prize, Talent shared:

“Thank you HCRDA so much for the prize. I’ve received it and it means so much. I will be using the money to buy some fencing material for my home. Thank you so much and keep uplifting our beautiful community.”

As part of the campaign’s community impact element, Talent nominated Khalawemuke Primary School as his beneficiary school. The school indicated that the winnings received will assist in addressing some of the school’s immediate needs.

New interactive smartboard transforms classroom experience

Phezulu High School has officially taken another step forward in enhancing digital learning and classroom education through the installation of a new interactive smartboard, projector, and sound bar.

Donation of the equipment was facilitated by the African Scholar Fund (ASF), supported by HCRDA member Pepkor, as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education and modern learning tools within local schools.

This new technology will play an important role in transforming the classroom experience by allowing for more interactive lessons, improved learner engagement, enhanced visual learning, and better delivery of educational content.

The introduction of digital teaching tools continues to bridge the gap between traditional learning methods and the evolving needs of today’s learners, helping educators create a more dynamic and effective learning environment.

Initiatives such as these continue to demonstrate the positive impact of collaborative investment in education and the future of young people in our communities.

MY WORK, MY STORY | Slindile ‘Mroza’ Shozi

Meet Slindile “Mroza” Shozi from Nonoti, kwaXimba, Cato Ridge - the third winner in the HCRDA My Work, My Story campaign, celebrating real stories of hope, resilience, and transformation through employment opportunities within HCRDA members.

Earlier this year, Slindile joined HCRDA member Safal Steel during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Without employment, family income, and living in a mud rondavel, she also faced personal mental health challenges and childhood trauma that affected her ability to move forward.

Through employment at Safal Steel, Slindile says she found more than just a job - she found dignity, support, healing, and renewed hope for the future.

In addition to employment and skills development opportunities, the company connected her with a therapist to assist with her mental wellness journey, helping her rebuild confidence and focus both at work and at home.

Today, Slindile is able to support her family, contribute meaningfully within her workplace, and look ahead to future growth opportunities, including the possibility of furthering her studies through company support.

Slindile expressed that “Safal Steel doesn’t just create jobs, it restores hope, builds futures and changes families like mine. I am proud and deeply grateful to be a Safalian.”

As part of the campaign’s community impact spirit, Slindile has nominated Zizamele High School to receive a R1’500 donation, further extending the impact of giving back within the community.

The My Work, My Story campaign continues to shine a light on the positive impact employment opportunities have on individuals, families, and communities across the region.

KEYSTONE PARK SAFETY DRIVE | CONTRAFLOW VIOLATIONS

Contraflow driving places both motorists and pedestrians in serious danger. A few seconds saved is not worth a culpable homicide charge.

We urge all drivers to obey road markings and traffic flow directions at all times to help keep Keystone Park safe for everyone.

Safety starts with responsible behaviour.

Hammarsdale stands united against bullying in schools

Since February, various stakeholders including the SAPS Mpumalanga Social Crime Prevention Unit, Ichibi Community Upliftment Project, Embo/iLanga Tribal Authority, Mkhelele Towing, Community Safety & Liaison, Spiritual Crime Prevention, community leaders, and local partners have visited over 20 primary and high schools across the Hammarsdale area as part of an ongoing Anti-Bullying Campaign.

These engagements focused on raising awareness around the impact of bullying, encouraging learners to make positive choices, and inspiring young people to become role models both inside and outside the classroom.

Through the school visits, a concerning need was identified - many learners are attending school without proper school shoes, affecting not only their daily comfort but also their confidence and self-esteem.

In response, Nkanyezi Zulu of local NPO AmaGents Foundation contributed towards the School Shoe Drive by donating three pairs of school shoes to learners in need.

The initiative now calls on businesses, organisations, and community members to come together in restoring dignity, confidence, and hope to local learners.

MY WORK, MY STORY | Mbuso Mkhize

HCRDA is proud to announce the second winner of our My Work, My Story campaign - Mbuso Mkhize from Hammarsdale Unit 6.

Mbuso completed his matric at Sikhethuxolo High School in Hammarsdale and went on to study a BCom Accounting degree at university, supported by a bursary. In his second year in 2018, he faced significant setbacks when he lost his bursary, NSFAS funding, and on-campus residence.

Despite these challenges, Mbuso remained determined to continue his studies. With the support of his single mother, who sustained the household through street vending, he persevered and successfully completed his studies, graduating with a BCom Accounting degree in 2020.

In 2022, Mbuso joined HCRDA member Scott Bader through the YES Programme as a Finance Intern, where he was recognised as the best student of the year. This opportunity marked the beginning of a strong career journey within the company.

In 2023, he was permanently appointed as a Debtors Clerk. Through consistent performance and dedication, he progressed to Finance Assistant in 2024, then Junior Accountant later that same year, and in 2025 he was promoted to Financial Accountant, his current role.

In 2025, Scott Bader further invested in his growth by supporting his Postgraduate qualification in Management, which he successfully completed with distinction. He is set to graduate on 20 May.

Mbuso’s journey is a powerful reflection of resilience, perseverance, and continuous growth, showing how determination and opportunity can change the course of a life.

As part of the campaign, Mbuso has nominated a local Early Childhood Development Centre, Shine Bright Day Care, to receive a R1’500 donation, continuing the spirit of giving back to the community.

Congratulations to Mbuso Mkhize on being the second of ten winners in the HCRDA My Work, My Story campaign.

Local SMME steps in with uniform donation

Today, AmaStevovo Pty Ltd, in collaboration with Upway Trading, donated 6 full school uniforms to 6 deserving learners at Hammarsdale based Uxolophambili High School.

Following engagement with School Principal Mr Nhlanhla Ntshingila and Ward Councillor Lungisani “Malulu” Sikhakhane, learners most in need of assistance were identified to receive the support.

The initiative aims to help ease the financial burden on families while ensuring learners are equipped with the necessary school uniform to attend school with dignity and confidence.

Encouragingly, plans are already in place for this contribution to become an annual initiative, with the intention of expanding support to various schools across the Hammarsdale area in future.

HCRDA welcomes collaborative community-driven efforts that continue to create positive impact within local schools and communities.

MY WORK, MY STORY | Talent Sokhela

HCRDA is proud to announce the first winner of our My Work, My Story campaign - Talent Sokhela, a Team Leader at the PEP Distribution Centre in Hammarsdale.

Talent joined PEP in June 2023 as a Skilled Worker operating the jackpot line within the Outbound-Dispatch department. Through dedication, consistency, and hard work, he was promoted to Team Leader in October 2024.

For Talent, employment has brought more than just financial stability - it has created opportunities for growth and a better future. His job has enabled him to support his family, purchase his own vehicle, and most importantly, pursue a BCom in Supply Chain and Operations Management through UNISA using both his salary and PEP Educational Assistance support.

His commitment and performance have also been recognised internally. In September 2024, Talent received the Best Jackpot Operator award on his shift, and was later entrusted with training new employees on the jackpot line before stepping into his leadership role.

As part of the campaign, Talent has nominated Khalawemuke Primary School to receive a R1’500 donation, believing that investing in local schools helps create opportunities for future generations.

Stories like Talent’s continue to remind us of the real impact HCRDA Members have on individuals, families, and communities.

Congratulations to Talent Sokhela on being Winner 1 of 10 in the HCRDA My Work, My Story campaign.
