🇿🇦 Freedom Day Community Dialogue | Building Active Citizenship
The Greater Molweni Community Resource Centre and Uvemvane Lwe-Afrika Project, in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the Clermont Community Resource Centre, successfully hosted a meaningful community dialogue on Freedom Day.
The dialogue created a platform for reflection on the gains of our democracy, an honest engagement on where we currently stand, and a critical discussion on the challenges we continue to face as a society.
We were honoured to have participation from representatives of various political organisations, community leaders, and members of the broader community. This diversity of voices strengthened the dialogue and reinforced the importance of inclusive engagement.
A key focus of the discussion was voter education, alongside the urgent need to foster social and political cohesion within our communities. We continue to encourage all community members to take responsibility as active and participative citizens by exercising their democratic right to vote.
🌍 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advanced through this initiative:
• SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions – Promoting democratic participation, accountability, and inclusive dialogue
• SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – Creating equal platforms for all voices within the community
• SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Strengthening community cohesion and civic participation
• SDG 4: Quality Education – Advancing civic and voter education within the community
🗳️ As we look ahead, we remind our community that the Local Government Elections will be held on 4 November. Your vote is your voice—make it count.
This is an ongoing initiative, and we are pleased to announce that the second community dialogue will take place on 27 May 2026. We invite all stakeholders and community members to be part of this important conversation.
Together, let us build a united, informed, and active community.
