ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR SERVING OUR HOMELESS COMMUNITY IN PIETERMARITZBURG 💙

What a delight to be invited by Life Changers and Lifeboat to spend the day with our homeless gents sharing time, listening, and restoring dignity.So many happy faces. So much heartfelt gratitude. It was humbling to see how a hot meal, a health check, and a simple "chiskop" could bring such big smiles.We are deeply grateful to EVERYONE who gave their time and heart:

GBV ACTIVIST LINDA MTSHALI CALLED
FOR TANGIBLE SOLUTIONS IN MEETING WITH POLICE MINISTER

Yesterday, local GBV activist Linda Mtshali from the Walk A Mile Foundation engaged Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia at Eddels Club in Mountain Rise, Pietermaritzburg.The engagement took place amid a rise in Gender-Based Violence incidents, after several women were murdered in recent months in Pietermaritzburg.

Mtshali highlighted the vulnerability of women in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas. As captured by The Witness, she said she hoped the engagement would result in tangible solutions to the plight of women in Pietermaritzburg communities.

WALK A MILE ON NEWZROOM AFRIKA :
JUSTICE FOR SISIPHO

Yesterday, GBV activist Linda Mtshali from The Walk A Mile Foundation stood alongside Sisipho's family on Newzroom Afrika, calling for justice.

Sisipho was a 33-year-old mother of two who went missing two weeks ago. Her body was found last week in Copesville. A person of interest was arrested and released within 24 hours.

In her interview, Linda didn't hold back:

"We are not a people of ubuntu anymore. We're not looking after each other and not standing together. People saw her in the company of people known to her and them. Someone should have come forward and said, 'I saw her with so-and-so.' Instead, there was silence."

She also spoke about what so many women in our communities live with every day fear. Walking to the shop, to school, to the taxi rank. A 5-minute walk is no longer safe.

At Walk A Mile, we say enough is enough. We're calling more stringent measures and
- Law enforcement to hold suspects and persons of interest for the full 48 hours while investigations are conducted.
- CPFs and Men and Women in Blue to step up patrols
- Security companies to come on board and help keep our communities safe
- Communities to speak up as silence protects perpetrators, not victims.

Our hearts are with Sisipho's two children, aged 12 and 14, and her whole family as they prepare to lay her to rest next weekend.

So many innocent souls lose their lives, many families lose their daughters and how many more do we have to lose before our government pull up their socks in ensuring that perpetrators are arrested and given life sentences for such horrific behaviors?Rest in peace Gracious Nkomo

Rest in Power, Queen 💔

Gracious Nkomo, 28, lifeless body was found along the R21 in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on 10 September 2026.

It is reported that Gracious had been missing for more than two weeks before her body was discovered. She was found partially clothed and in a state of decomposition and was positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary on 17 September.

Gracious is the fourth woman to be identified among nine women whose bodies have been discovered across Ekurhuleni in recent months.
The investigation remains ongoing. To date, no one has been arrested.

Nine women found. Four of them identified. And no one has been arrested. The horrors women in this country continue to endure are unimaginable. How many more women must lose their lives before this country starts treating femicide with the urgency it deserves? When is enough, enough?

Rest in Power, Queen 💔

Mereldine Maya, 38, lifeless body was found in shallow water in Fisantekraal, Western Cape, on 22 July 2026.

She had been celebrating her birthday the day before, when she and her boyfriend allegedly got into an argument. She was last seen leaving her boyfriend’s home late that night.

The following day, Mereldine’s lifeless body was found in shallow water. To date, no arrests have been made.

Mereldine leaves behind three children. We are heartbroken by the loss of another beautiful soul. How many more women must lose their lives before this country starts treating femicide with the urgency it deserves? When is enough, enough?
