Being unwell is hard enough. Not knowing where to turn makes it harder.

For someone living on the street, getting medical attention can come with barriers most of us never have to think about.

At Life Boat, our volunteer nurse offers something simple but important: a place where someone can show up, be listened to and receive care.

In September, 24 clinic visits took place at Life Boat.

Twenty-four moments where someone didnā€™t have to face their health concerns alone.

Because sometimes, making a difference starts with simply being there. šŸ¤

This World Homeless Day, Life Changer is bringing 200 people experiencing homelessness together in Pietermaritzburg for a morning of food, care, connection and a little fun.

We are inviting local businesses, churches and organisations to come alongside us.

We need a few simple things to make the morning special ā€” cooked chicken, coleslaw, care-package items, treats, games and helping hands to serve the meals.

Our weekly craft programme gives people experiencing homelessness a chance to spend time creating, learning new skills and simply enjoying the feeling of making something with their own hands.

Itā€™s a small space to pause, connect and, in its own way, begin to heal.

One of the activities is making dog toys from old T-shirts ā€” something practical, playful and surprisingly satisfying. And right now, weā€™ve run out of fabric!

If you have clean, unwanted T-shirts that are no longer being worn, weā€™d love to give them a new life as dog toys. šŸ¶

You can drop them off at Life Boat Resource Centre in Pietermaritzburg.

Sometimes a T-shirt you no longer need can become something that brings a little joy to someone else ā€” and to a very lucky dog. ā¤ļø

Devastating news! The shelter suits handed out just a week ago have been confiscated by Msunduzi Municipality.

So we have a simple question for Msunduzi Municipality - City of Choice: Where do you suggest people go when they have nowhere else to go?

If the answer is not the streets, then where?

Hot chocolate. Comfy clothes. Maybe one last scroll before bed.

That little routine of getting ready for another week.

But for someone living on the streets, there may be no bed waiting. No hot shower. No clean clothes laid out for tomorrow. Sometimes, not even certainty about where the night will be spent.

Itā€™s easy to take those little comforts for granted when theyā€™re simply part of our everyday.

At Life Changer, weā€™re reminded that sometimes the things that feel small to us ā€” a hot meal, clean clothes, a haircut, a conversation ā€” can mean something much bigger to someone else.

As you settle in tonight, maybe just take a moment to appreciate the ordinary. Because ordinary isn't ordinary for everyone. šŸ¤

This week, 25 Shelter Suit bags found their way into the hands of people in our street-based community.

Waterproof and wind-resistant, theyā€™re something practical to help make cold, wet nights a little easier.
What stayed with us was just how much something so simple can mean when youā€™re sleeping outside.

This is what showing up looks like. And we couldnā€™t do it without the people who choose to walk alongside us. šŸ¤

Thereā€™s something powerful about being able to contribute to the place you call home.

At Life Boat, we see it in small ways every day. Someone picks up litter. Someone brings it in. Someone earns a voucher. And that voucher might mean lunch, a haircut, clothing or a little bit of care.

Itā€™s not charity as a one-way street. Itā€™s about creating opportunities for people to contribute, participate and be treated with dignity.

This week, weā€™re thinking about what it means to care for PMB ā€” and how each of us can play a part.

Weā€™re proud to stand alongside KPCA (Keep PMB Clean Action Group) and everyone getting involved in keeping our city cleaner and recycling more.

Because a city worth caring for is a city that cares about its people, too. šŸ’š

ONE MONTH TO GO. šŸ’› | World Homeless Day ā€” 10 October 2026

On 10 October Life Changer will be marking World Homeless Day in Pietermaritzburgā€” and weā€™d love our community to be part of it.

This is an invitation to our churches, schools, local businesses, community groups and families, help us put a little more warmth, dignity and care into someoneā€™s day. Because sometimes being part of changing a life looks as simple as sharing a meal. šŸ—

Weā€™re looking for support with:
šŸ— Chicken pieces
šŸŒ½ Mielie meal
šŸ„¤ Drinks / Buddy drinks
šŸ’› Monetary contributions

Whether your church wants to run a collection, your school wants to get involved, your business can sponsor supplies, or your team simply wants to rally around the cause ā€” every contribution helps.

At Life Changer, we believe in walking alongside people who need it most. Not just for a day, but with dignity, compassion and the reminder that they matter.
