A week in review at Gift of the Givers:

South Africa: Our teams conducted a Winter Relief Distribution to support vulnerable elderly people and youth affected by the harsh winter conditions. The intervention provided 450 Super Maize Meal packs, blankets, and warm hats, helping to improve food security while ensuring beneficiaries stay warm during the cold season.

Following urgent appeals for assistance, Gift of the Givers teams delivered hot meals, drinking water, and blankets to affected families.
Malawi: As communities in Chikwawa and Nsanje work to restore peace and strengthen trust in lawful justice systems, Gift of the Givers supported South East Region Police operations aimed at curbing mob justice incidents.

To support female officers serving on the frontline, Gift of the Givers provided 60 officers stationed at two operational camps with MINA menstrual cups, a safe, reusable menstrual hygiene solution.

Somalia: As part of the drought response efforts, our team carried out water-trucking activities to provide safe and reliable water access to 500 displaced individuals in Kismayo and Luglow.

Palestine: Our clinic in northern Gaza continues to provide essential healthcare, including general medicine, urology, orthopaedics, and pharmacy support, for patients facing displacement and severe economic hardship.

Through the clinic pharmacy, our team provides free medication to children, elderly patients, and women who cannot afford treatment.

Yemen: Our team in Taizz is installing 56 tents for the displaced in the districts of Shamaitin and Mount Habshi, and distributing 212 food baskets to camps in both districts. This intervention is part of the project to support families affected by floods and other natural disasters.

Supporting Returning Malawian Nationals 🇲🇼

On Wednesday night, Gift of the Givers teams in Malawi joined the Malawi Government and humanitarian partners in welcoming 661 Malawian nationals returning home from South Africa at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. More than 95% of the returnees were women, including 33 expectant mothers and 223 babies and toddlers, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian support. Shortly after midnight, our teams served hot meals to families who had endured days of difficult travel with limited access to food and basic necessities.

Earlier, our South African teams also assisted many of these families at Sherwood Hall in Durban, providing food, essential non-food items, and helping facilitate their safe return home.

With over 10000 Malawian nationals expected to return from South Africa, Gift of the Givers remains committed to working alongside authorities to ensure returning citizens receive the care, dignity, and support they need as they rebuild their lives. We remain guided by a simple principle: humanity knows no boundaries. Service to people in need, regardless of nationality or circumstance, is service to mankind.

Supporting Stranded Zimbabwean 🇿🇼 Families | Cape Town

Gift of the Givers teams provided humanitarian assistance to stranded Zimbabwean nationals outside the Consulate in Cape Town. The families, consisting mainly of women and children, had been displaced from their accommodation amid the current unrest.

Our teams distributed hot meals, 5-litre bottled water, blankets, and baby care packs to help meet their immediate needs. The Zimbabwean Consulate has arranged transport to assist the families with their return to Zimbabwe.

At Gift of the Givers, we remain guided by a simple principle: humanity knows no boundaries. Service to people in need, regardless of nationality or circumstance, is service to mankind.

Supporting Education Through Partnership 📚 - Durban

Together with Randels Road Sasol Garage, we delivered 30 boxes of Rototrim duplicating paper to Burnwood Secondary School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The school, which achieved outstanding 2025 matric results, serves many learners from a nearby informal settlement and faces ongoing financial challenges due to low school fee collections. This donation will help ease the burden of purchasing essential teaching and administrative supplies, ensuring uninterrupted access to learning materials.

Principal Mr Mabaso and the school staff expressed their sincere appreciation for the generous support. Together, we are investing in education and creating opportunities for learners to succeed. 📖✨

🙌 Youth Day Celebration at St John's Child and Youth Care Centre

Gift of the Givers and our Mina team joined St John's Child and Youth Care Centre to celebrate the children born in 2010, who are turning 16 this year. Born during the year South Africa hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the celebration also looked ahead to the country's participation in the upcoming tournament.

A highlight of the day was an inspiring address by a former beneficiary who lost both her parents at the age of nine. She shared how St John's became her home, giving her opportunities she had never imagined, including her first Christmas gift and first flight. Now a university graduate working in Cape Town, she encouraged the children to pursue their education and always stay connected to their St John's family. The programme featured vibrant performances by the children and staff, including a Sarafina! rendition and a lively gumboot dance.

Our teams also hosted educational sessions on puberty, bullying and peer pressure for 100 boys, while girls received similar training and 100 menstrual cups. To support the orphanage's ongoing work, essential donations of dry food, baby food, detergents and toilet paper were handed over, making the day one of celebration, learning and hope.
