🦷 Paediatric Dental Programme Gets Underway At George Hospital

Our Gift of the Givers team has arrived at George Provincial Hospital and immediately begun seeing young patients in need of dental care.

Before entering theatre, each child’s medical history is recorded and consent obtained. A dedicated play area helps keep the children calm, comfortable and occupied while they wait for their procedures. Every detail matters when caring for little ones, helping ease their anxiety and bring them one step closer to a pain-free smile.

🔵 Building Healthier Communities Through Diabetes Education

We hosted our first official Diabetes Support Group at Khan Road Clinic, bringing together approximately 25 community members for an informative and engaging session on managing .

👩‍⚕️ Sr Mkhize educated attendees on diabetes medication, while Sumaya Sooliman shared practical dietary guidelines for managing chronic conditions. Participants received nutrition education materials and enjoyed homemade, diabetes-friendly muffins.

📚 The Northdale Library supported the initiative by displaying diabetes-related books, while Mergan Naidoo, Health Portfolio representative on the Ward 28 Committee, helped raise awareness in the community.

Following an overwhelmingly positive response, the support group will meet monthly at the Northdale Library, with workshops covering various chronic conditions and featuring guest speakers. A WhatsApp group will also provide ongoing education, healthy recipes, support and updates on upcoming sessions.

💚 By sharing knowledge and creating a supportive space, we can empower individuals to manage their health with greater confidence and build healthier communities together.

Gift of the Givers’ volunteer specialist anaesthetist team, led by Dr Aysha Osman and including Dr Alex Brandl and Dr Wilna Bester, played a vital role in completing 72 catch-up gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures in one day at Kalafong Hospital.

With a nationwide shortage of anaesthetists in public hospitals, their expertise and generosity helped patients access long-awaited care.

🦷 Dental Team To Help 330 Children In George

Dr Naeem Kathrada, dentist and Gift of the Givers Head of Medical Team in the Western Cape, leads a multidisciplinary team flying to George this morning to help address a backlog of dental procedures affecting 330 children. A second team will fly out later today to support this vital intervention.
