On Friday we were contacted by Sarah to assist with a stray mom that had given birth. So we went across town on Saturday afternoon to assess. Mommy had given birth to her kittens in a concrete wash trough (with a tub over it) on a covered verandah of a vacant property. We could hear the little cries and could see mommy (who gave us a warning hiss), but at that point it was unknown how many kittens, nor their age.
We put wet food down the one side & mommy eargerly ate it up. We then had to move tte tub on top to gain access & as we did, mommy Penelope jumped out ( as is semi-feral/stray), but sat just a couple of meters away. We transferred her 4x 5-day old babies (tabby, ginger, ginger/white & tortie) to a carrier & placed more wet food inside.
Penelope being the good mom she is couldn't refuse her babies squeaks plus the smell of the food, so went into the carrier & we shut the door. She was transported to our foster mom, where she is settling in with her kittens.
