Mama Ntombi's Community Projects

Mama Ntombi's Community Projects Mama Ntombi’s Community Projects (MNCP) was founded in 2007 and is caring for about 450 orphaned a further strengthen the children’s wellbeing.

Mama Ntombi’s Community Projects (MNCP) is a South African non‑profit organisation dedicated to uplifting vulnerable children and families in the rural settlement of Ezinketheni in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Founded in 2007, the initiative began as a volunteer‑led effort. Our office is located at 219 Retief Street in The Christian Fellowship church building, but all programmes are delivered

on the ground in Ezinketheni, a community that lacks basic infrastructure such as proper roads, water and sanitation. Our focus is on children because they are the most vulnerable members of society, yet we cannot work with them in isolation; we also provide support to the broader community. We run an Early Childhood Development Centre that serves 30 of the poorest children with free breakfast, lunch and essential stationery. A Breakfast Club ensures learners start the school day nourished, while a Reading and Homework Club reinforces literacy and academic skills. Three mentorship groups, totalling 50 children, pair boys with male facilitators and girls with female facilitators to teach ethical values and life skills. After‑school feeding, holiday clubs and workshops on anti‑drugs, bullying and suicide prevention etc. In addition, we implement family‑sustainability projects that aim to reduce dependency on hand‑outs and promote self‑reliance. Our motto, “Making a difference one innocent child at a time,” reflects our commitment to hope, dignity and lasting impact. With the support of donors, partners and volunteers, MNCP strives to create a brighter future for the children of Ezinketheni and to strengthen the entire community.

This is what dedication looks like 👇

Exams: done.
School holidays: only start 26 June.
Most kids: staying home.

Our MNCP Reading Club children: still showing up, still reading, still believing in their future.

We’re so grateful for these hearts that love learning, even when no one’s forcing them to. You inspire us daily 💛📚

Today 226 precious children heard about the Bread of Life and received sandwiches, juice, oranges + a packet of chips at our open-air Wayside Children’s Outreach 💛

It breaks our hearts to see the signs of malnutrition caused by poverty. We run The Breakfast Club at the MNCP Centre, just 1.5km away, where kids get at least one solid meal a day. But many are too young to walk that far alone.

To the hands and hearts that served today — thank you! The kids felt your love in every handout. God bless you 🙏🏽. Thank you to our amazing donors who make this possible 🌟💖🎉👏💕

Lungi's Senior Mentorship Program
12 June 2026
Topic: Positive Character

This session was a continuation of a discussion we started a few weeks ago. The girls were given a task to identify their positive character traits and reflect on how they help people outside of their families.

I was truly inspired by their honesty and self-awareness during the discussion. One young lady shared that her character has improved significantly since she started attending our mentorship programs, which was encouraging to hear.

Another girl spoke about how she helps her neighbours' children with their homework. She also enjoys playing "school" with them, turning playtime into an opportunity for learning and extra lessons.

One of the girls shared that she has a heart for helping her neighbours, especially when they do not have enough food. She expressed how deeply she cares for others and always wants to ensure that no one goes hungry.

Moments like these remind us that positive character is not only about who we are, but also about how we impact the lives of those around us. We are proud of these young ladies and the compassion, kindness, and responsibility they continue to demonstrate in their communities. 💜

Welcome to the MNCP Family! 💛
We’re so excited to welcome two new volunteers to our Centre:

Thando – Psychology Honours student at UKZN, from Durban
Rego – Final year Psychology student at UKZN, from Pretoria

Thando and Rego spent the day with us today, helping make sandwiches for Reading Club and supporting the children with reading and comprehension. Even though they arrived just after preschool home time, their energy and heart were felt by everyone.

Thank you also for the clothes you collected and donated to our children — they will make such a difference.

We’re grateful for your time, your compassion, and for choosing to volunteer with MNCP. We look forward to having you back after the July holiday break!

MNCP family, please join us in giving Thando and Rego a warm welcome 🙏🏽

A big thank you to Lungi 🙌 for going the extra mile with Grade 2 Maths lessons for Anele and Thalente today!

We focused on Maths literacy — turning division into story problems so they could practice their multiplication and division skills in a real-world way. It was definitely a challenge, but both learners showed great effort and determination 💪

Lungi will be meeting again with them on Thursday for the next lesson. Keep it up, Anele & Thalente! Your hard work is showing.

MNCP Preschool Achieves Full House and Completes Comprehensive Assessments 💯. Today, we were pleased to report 100% attendance, with all 32 preschool children in attendance. This enabled us to conduct our end-of-term assessments across the curriculum covered since January, providing a clear picture of each child's progress and areas requiring additional support. The assessments highlighted individual strengths and identified specific areas for further development, acknowledging that each child progresses at their unique pace. The afternoon session focused on outdoor learning, where children engaged in recreational activities, such as playing catch, which promoted physical coordination and teamwork. Full attendance allows us to provide personalized attention to each child, eliminating the need for catch-up sessions. We appreciate the collective effort that makes consistent attendance possible, including provision of warm clothing, safe transportation, and meals. We look forward to witnessing the continued growth and development of our children. Here's to watching these little ones grow🌱

Catching up with Asanda Dumakude 💛
It was lovely hearing her news. Asanda is currently completing her Masters in Consumer Science at Zululand University, and we wish her every success with the rest of her studies and future career.

We’re so proud of Asanda, who volunteered at MNCP in 2023. She keeps in touch faithfully and hopes to visit the MNCP Centre in July during her university break to encourage our children to trust God and focus on their studies, despite their circumstances.

Thank you, Asanda. We’re proud of your achievements 👏🏼🎉😊👍💕

We were so delighted to welcome Sheila and Ed, all the way from Michigan, USA, to our Reading Club today! 📚✨

As a fellow book lover, Sheila carefully selected and donated a wonderful collection of books for our children. She also took the time to sit with them and listen as they read their stories aloud — a moment our kids absolutely loved.

Thank you, Sheila and Ed, for your kindness and generosity. We truly appreciate you! 🙏🏽💛
