COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN SUCCESS 🌿
On 19 June 2026, Induna Mrs. Mchunu of Mafakatini village representative of Mpumuza Traditional Authority, under the leadership of INkosi Khethokuhle Zondi, successfully hosted a Community Clean-Up Campaign at the area called Ngase Diphini, next to Icebolethu Mortuary in Mafakatini, KwaMncane.
This initiative was proudly undertaken in partnership with Umhlabawethu Organization and Amampumuza Youth Legacy, bringing together government departments, private sector stakeholders, community organisations, traditional leadership, and local residents in a united effort to protect and improve our environment.
Throughout the day, participants worked tirelessly to remove invasive alien vegetation and collect large amounts of waste, including disposable diapers, plastics, metal scraps, paper waste, bottles, and other pollutants. The campaign has significantly improved the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the area.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who supported this initiative, including Icebolethu Mortuary, DUCT, CAPRISA, Khabzo Funeral Services, SAPPI, Virtual State, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the Department of Economic Development, Health Systems Trust (HST), community members, and local leadership structures.
A special thank you goes to Ward Councillor Mr. Ngubane for officially welcoming and encouraging all participants.
The strong community turnout demonstrated that when we work together, we can create lasting positive change. While much has been achieved, stakeholders agreed that continued clean-up activities and environmental awareness programmes remain necessary to ensure a cleaner and healthier future for all.
Together, we are building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Mafakatini.
