Mpumuza Traditional Authority Participates in Environmental Governance Workshop
Mpumuza Traditional Authority was honoured to participate in a successful Community-Based Environmental Governance, Compliance, Enforcement and Monitoring Workshop hosted by the Virtual State Programme, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
The workshop was held at KwaMpumuza, Mpushini Village, under the leadership of Nduna Qwabe, and brought together various stakeholders committed to finding practical solutions to environmental challenges affecting our communities.
We were proudly represented by Nduna Zondi, who participated as a speaker, sharing the perspective and experiences of Mpumuza Traditional Authority on environmental governance, community involvement, compliance and the protection of our natural resources.
The discussions highlighted the urgent need for localised environmental solutions. Illegal dumping, pollution of water resources, invasive eucalyptus plantations and unplanned human settlements cannot be addressed through clean-up campaigns alone. Stronger community-based systems for environmental monitoring, compliance and enforcement are urgently needed.
We welcome the introduction of the Green Defender Programme and look forward to working with all stakeholders towards practical implementation of the solutions discussed.
