Good evening 🙏community

I would like say a heartfelt thank you to Councillor Renisha Singh and the Ward 28 Ward Committee — especially Naz and Ravi — for putting together such a spectacular GBV event this afternoon. It was exactly what our community needed.

Prayer was such a powerful part of it, because if anything can help a situation, it is prayer. It was beautiful to see us come together as a community across different faiths, standing united for one cause.

We hope the wider community takes heed and joins the next event. We're often quick to ask "what is being done?" — but when something is done, we don't always show up, and that's sad. It's time we take a stand together instead of running away from what's happening socially in our community.

Thank you again, Councillor for your efforts and commitment along with your team to a worthy cause. A truly brilliant event, and we foresee great things ahead for you guys Faith over fear 🙏

🎙️ Are you following the Madlanga Commission?

If you're not, you are seriously in denial about what is happening in this country right now.
Watching MP Fadiel Adams testify has honestly felt like a circus. The way he answers questions — with no basis, no consistency, seemingly no real understanding of his own responses — he has tied himself up in a web of lies in front of impartial commissioners whose whole job is to get to the truth. It gives you a clear picture of the kind of politician who has no real knowledge and is simply there — occupying a seat.

This is exactly why it matters as we head into the November 2026 local government elections. Let it show you how politicians cry poor and play on people's sympathy just to secure positions in parliament and in council — and let it sharpen how you see through the candidates coming to your door now.
If a person doesn't understand transparency and accountability, and is only there to feed their own pocket off taxpayers' and citizens' money — sometimes even running what amounts to pyramid schemes — then know exactly what kind of person you'd be handing your community, and your fate as a citizen of South Africa, to. It is absolutely putrid.

Honestly, I wish every council candidate and sitting councillor had to sit before a commission the way Adams sat before Madlanga — the way people sat before SCOPA.

The manner in which they answer tells you everything: whether they are knowledgeable, whether they are educated on the work they're asking to do, whether they understand the policies and the Constitution at all.

Based on what we're seeing, many simply don't — and that means they have no business representing us in council.

Political parties will come to your door and tell you absolute rubbish, because all they want is your vote. And let's be honest — look around: almost every party right now has members with their hands in the cookie jar. Not one party can say it's clean. Whether it's the big or some of the new parties — investigations are coming out in the news all the time, and it is genuinely scary.

So let's make this a consensus decision when we vote in November 2026. Ask the parties the hard questions. Make them earn your vote. Please don't vote just because the candidate is your friend or someone you know — that is a foolish way to vote when your community's future is on the line.

When Personal Values Meet Political Responsibility

One of the biggest questions voters must ask when individuals enter politics is how they will balance their personal values, beliefs, and principles with the responsibilities that come with belonging to a political organisation.

When someone joins a political party, they become part of a broader structure with policies, decisions, and positions that may not always align perfectly with their own personal views. This is the reality of politics. The question then becomes: when faced with a decision that conflicts with their personal beliefs or the expectations of the community, will they have the courage to speak up?

Leadership requires honesty, transparency, and accountability. A candidate cannot only tell people what they want to hear during election season; they must be upfront about what they can and cannot deliver. Communities deserve leaders who will explain the realities of governance, including the limitations placed on them by party structures and political processes.

For those who have built trust within their communities through other roles, that responsibility becomes even greater. People do not only vote for a person’s promises; they vote based on the belief that the individual will represent their interests and remain true to their principles.

The question voters should consider is not only, “What promises are being made?” but also, “Will this person have the independence, integrity, and courage to challenge decisions when they believe those decisions are not in the best interests of the people?”

A leader’s character is tested not when things are easy, but when they must make difficult choices. The community deserves representatives who will not simply follow instructions, but who will listen, question, and stand firm when necessary.

At the end of the day, public office is a position of trust. That trust must be earned through honesty, consistency, and a demonstrated commitment to the people — not only during elections, but every day.

NARRA is calling on all residents who have been completely cut off from water — where your taps are closed and not a single drop of water is coming through — and who have not received assistance or intervention from the municipality, to please contact us on our official contact numbers.

We are compiling a list of affected residents so that we can escalate these cases to the Human Rights Commission and ensure that the challenges faced by our communities are formally addressed.

**NARRA: THE NORTHERN AREAS IS NOT A RACIST COMMUNITY — WE DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR FRIDAY'S SILENCE**

*Pietermaritzburg, * — NARRA wishes to place on record, unequivocally, that the Northern Areas is not and has never been a racist community.

Once known predominantly as an Indian area under apartheid spatial planning, our community today is diverse — home to residents of many races and backgrounds, living, working, and worshipping alongside one another. Our religious institutions — our temples, churches, and mosques — feed and support anyone in need, without regard to race. Our community leaders assist all residents, regardless of background. This is who the Northern Areas is: hardworking ratepayers who contribute to this ward and this city, and who do not resort to public disorder or destruction to make their voices heard.

It is precisely because of this identity that NARRA finds it deeply disgruntling that not a single political party or government structure has condemned the racial slurs and humiliation captured on video this past Friday. Our community is too often targeted and mischaracterised by the municipality and even in council — labelled "rich and affluent" as though that were a race issue rather than simply the product of a community that works hard. Yet when residents of this same diverse community are subjected to open racism, the silence from political leadership has been deafening.

NARRA believes this silence speaks to a troubling pattern: political parties appear more concerned with avoiding offence to the majority than with standing firmly against racism wherever it occurs. That should never be acceptable. South Africa is a diverse country. Northdale and the wider Northern Areas are a diverse community. Racism directed at any resident, from any quarter, deserves the same condemnation — without exception, and without political calculation.

We call on national SAPs, government structures, and civic leaders to break their silence, condemn what happened on Friday without qualification, and affirm that racism has no home in a democratic South Africa — including here, in the Northern Areas.
