One Friday morning I woke up early with a bright idea to radically de-clutter our home. I thought that it would be a good idea to encourage others to do so too and have a big sale to support local orphanages that we are currently helping in various ways. I have also always been keen on recycling and redirecting unwanted goods to meet the needs of others. However, to conduct a large sale we would need a convenient venue that was safe, busy and preferably close to home. I had in mind Camps Drift Park near Makro, but knew that renting a venue for this sort of event would be out of the question.
The very next day I shared this idea with a visiting friend. To my amazement he said a relative of his had a vacant shop at Camps Drift Park. I phoned him and he offered his shop free of charge until he had a tenant. That was the first of what I believe to be one of many miracles along this extraordinary journey.
We started by messaging all our family, friends and colleagues and we were amazed at the generous response as all sorts of items started to come in. Within two weeks we had our first successful Saturday Sale on the 1st September. We then decided to continue the sales regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays as long as there was a steady supply of stock.
So far it has been going very well and we have been able to donate all profits equally to the three needy charities who have been hugely appreciative. We have also made some very special new friendships along the way.
Although itβs a lot more work and effort than we had imagined (as most of my bright ideas are), we have been greatly encouraged by the way it has happened with all things working together. There are often moments when our hearts are warmed by the amount of good people that have rallied to support this cause. There have also been moments when we have been awestruck by the amazing supply that has met specific needs at the right time which have been far beyond coincidence. It makes this a truly exciting journey!
We have no idea how long this will continue for, but at this stage it is still gaining momentum. As the availability of our current shop draws to a close at the end of October, we are considering renting a garage at the entrance of Camps Drift Park (in the same complex as the China shop, just before Makro).
