This year, on Menstrual Hygiene Day (28 May), we proudly launched Project Dignity at Esibusisweni School in Panbult, Mkhondo District, Mpumalanga.
Project Dignity was created with one simple belief: access to menstrual health is a right, not a privilege.
In South Africa, millions of girls miss school each month because they do not have access to sanitary products or safe facilities. No girl should have her education interrupted, her confidence diminished, or her future opportunities limited because of
her period.
Project Dignity is about much more than providing pads. It is a holistic initiative supporting 400 adolescent girls through:
✨ Safe, renovated bathroom facilities
✨ Access to menstrual products
✨ Education and open conversations about menstrual health
✨ Leadership and confidence-building opportunities
We are incredibly grateful to the many people and organisations who came together to make this possible.
Thank you to Egal for donating Pads on a Roll and helping ensure girls have dignified and accessible menstrual care. Thank you to TWK for their generous sponsorship of sanitary pads. Thank you to Steiner for providing she-bins, sanitary packet holders, toilet paper holders, soap dispensers, and the ongoing servicing of these facilities. A special thank you to Erika du Toit for helping fund the renovation of the bathroom facilities, creating safe, clean spaces with running water and lockable doors. Thank you to Vince Thompson for overseeing the maintenance and renovation project, and to Sister Nkabinde from the Department of Health for educating the girls on menstrual health and wellbeing.
We are also grateful to our champions at Esibusisweni School, Deputy Principal Mr Mtshali and Ms Lindokuhle Khumalo, whose support and commitment have been invaluable.
Most importantly, thank you to the Asibambisane team, whose passion, determination, and belief that change is possible became the heartbeat of this initiative. When others ask, "What if the products are misused?" or "What if people take too many?", they
remind us of the bigger reality: girls are already missing school, compromising their health, and being denied opportunities because their basic needs are not being met. Menstrual health should never be optional.
When we invest in dignity, education, and opportunity for girls, we strengthen entire communities.
Thank you to every partner, volunteer, donor, and community member who helped make Project Dignity a reality. Together, we are removing barriers and helping ensure that every girl can attend school with confidence, dignity, and hope for the future.
