After 14 years in Scouting, Mosa Tele, the Free State Regional Team Coordinator for Rovers in Thabo Mofutsanyana, lived her dream when she met peers from around the world. For Mosa, the 2nd Africa Scout Moot was more than an adventure, it was an opportunity to share SA’s history, cultures, and gain new experiences.

“There's a saying in isiXhosa ‘Oh sana’, which is what you use when something is so good, so fun, and so full of experience that it's unexplainable. That’s exactly what the Moot was!

We did activities that were firsts for me like rafting, rowing, and visiting an informal settlement in Soweto. As a child I grew up hearing ‘the waters are dangerous’, but with my Scouting brothers and sisters beside me, I went in. Teamwork and trust were everything. We rowed 18km from Vaal Dam to Vredefort Dam, 6 hours on the water! We felt excitement, fear, exhaustion, and so much encouragement. When the waves got strong and shook our boat, we prayed together. I conquered my fears and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Ubuntu was alive the whole time. We celebrated culture, cooked together, shared dances, and learned from each other. The Moot theme ‘Phezulu Nangaphezulu’ sealed it all as we did grow higher and higher.

As the saying goes: ‘It takes one to be part of a Scout family in order for them to grow, and it takes a village to raise a child.’ But our village doesn’t only reside in one place, our village is all over the world.”
