Janet’s Junction Community Hub

Janet’s Junction Community Hub We want to teach people how to become self-sufficient in order to boost their self esteem and in turn become more effective and productive citizens.

We gave been hard at work for over 5 years now. Join us on our journey as we continue to grow. Janet's Junction is not only about giving away meals. We aspire to help people uplift themselves - we want to give folks a hand but not a hand out. Some of the people who receive support from us help by cleaning the outside of the premises or contributing in various other ways. Children are encouraged to

keep the park clean, adults are asked to respect the facilities by queuing and waiting their turn with patience. Some of the adults receiving support give back to the community by participating in the Phoenix Neighbourhood Watch patrols or assist by logging Service Requests for the City of Cape Town to attend to various issues that need to be addressed.. Our main focus at the moment is building up our School Support group. Children are being left behind at school in classes that are too big for teachers to provide personal attention to stragglers. We aim to build a program that will assist some of these children by giving them focused attention in the areas that they need help in. We have 12 students at the moment who are in need of assistance with various subjects. This is being facilitated by access to MTN Online Classroom sessions, as well as hands on guidance from volunteers who come from the greater Milnerton community. All of the students have been given access to computers to gain some computer literacy skills. These students are keeping up with their school work and will in the longer term be paired with younger students who need help with their subjects. We hope to grow this group to 16 students - which is what our current resources allow for. The program is evolving organically and we are pleased with its progress. If there are any people who would like to assist by mentoring one or groups of students, please e-mail [email protected] or [email protected],

🥪 6,700 sandwiches. 100 volunteers. One massive Mandela Day. Our 4th annual sandwich drive for Phoenix & Joe Slovo is done — huge thanks to every hand that mixed, spread, and wrapped, and every business and sponsor who backed us. This is what 67 minutes (and so much more) looks like. 💛

🎉 We’re excited to announce that Janet’s Junction’s 2026 Mandela Day Sandwich Drive is officially happening!

Janet’s Junction will once again be hosting our annual Mandela Day Sandwich Drive at Paddocks Shopping Centre on

FRIDAY, 17 July 2026,

giving corporates, schools, community groups and individuals the opportunity to spend their 67 Mandela Minutes making a real difference.

Join us between 10:00 and 16:00 to help prepare sandwiches for our neighbours in Joe Slovo and Phoenix, Milnerton.

To ensure everyone has enough space and ingredients to participate, we kindly ask that all individuals and groups reserve a timeslot in advance. This helps us plan the day and ensures a smooth, enjoyable experience for everyone.

Time slots for Friday:
10:00-11:15
11:30-12:45
13:00-14:15
14:30-15:45

This year, we’re also proud to be collaborating with The Impilo Project. While Janet’s Junction is organising and hosting the Sandwich Drive at Paddocks Shopping Centre on Friday, 17 July, The Impilo Project will be hosting its own Mandela Day Community Health Initiative at Marconi Beam Primary School on Saturday, 18 July.

As part of this collaboration, some of the sandwiches prepared during our Sandwich Drive will be distributed by The Impilo Project to members of the community attending their health outreach event.

If you’d like to learn more about The Impilo Project’s Mandela Day initiative, volunteer, or support their campaign, please visit their website https://impiloproject.org or click on the link in the comments below to The Good Things
Guy’s article.

Whether you can spare 67 minutes or a little longer, every sandwich made is a gesture of kindness and hope.

If your company, organisation or team is looking for a meaningful Mandela Day initiative, we’d love to welcome you.

💛 Donations of bread, sandwich fillings and other ingredients are also greatly appreciated.

ROBOTICS with Sai

Thabile and Lerato enjoyed their robotics sessions with Sai at the Learning Lab this past Monday.

These two turning up on a public holiday shows us that they really enjoy this very special opportunity to learn new things.

This time it was about a pendulum and how it works.

Thank you Robo Sai for the session!
