Award-Winning Innovation: Amabali Champs
In 2026, we proudly secured the Innovation in Practice award at the Amplify After School Symposium, South Africa’s premier after-school event. We were recognized for our groundbreaking web application, Amabali Champs, which transforms how learners engage with literature. Through the app, students submit reviews of books they’ve read to earn virtual currency, which they can spend at our monthly pop-up markets.

We developed this initiative to bridge the literacy gap in township schools and specifically tackle the challenge of reading for comprehension among Grade 4 learners. The impact was immediate and extraordinary. Since introducing the app, we have seen students voluntarily reading up to 50 books per month—a level of engagement and enthusiasm previously unseen. Amabali Champs isn't just an app; it is a movement fostering a lifelong culture of reading.

This weekend marked our final outing for the year. We visited ST James beach, which is conveniently located near Muizenberg. What a day it was. Our learners thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We could not have asked for a better day. The weather was perfect. Until next year. CHOSA: Children of South Africa CHOSA: Children of South Africa

Today was a truly incredible day, marked by our learner appreciation day, where learners were able to enjoy the rewards of their labour by purchasing treats with tokens earned through reading. CHOSA: Children of South Africa

Hear me out…

A recent study revealed that 80% of Grade 4 learners in South Africa cannot read for meaning. That’s not just a statistic—it’s a call to action.

At Sikhululekile, we’ve built a simple but powerful solution: Amabali Champs — a tech platform where kids earn rewards for reading stories and writing reviews. And now we need you.

We’re looking for volunteers who can help our young readers edit their reviews, guide their grammar, and strengthen their confidence. Just a few minutes of your time can help a child unlock a lifetime of literacy.

All you need to do is sign up on the ForGood platform, create a quick account, and join our campaign.
Tap the link below and become part of something that truly matters.

Let’s build a nation of readers, one story at a time. 📚✨

The issue of hunger among beneficiaries is one of the most painful realities of running a social program. We know this firsthand—seven years ago, our organization was on the verge of collapse after we ran out of essential funding.

We were saved by the incredible intervention of The Lunchbox Fund . Because they stepped in, we are still thriving and serving our community today.
This experience is a powerful reminder: When considering where to direct your giving, especially when approached for campaigns like "Add Hope" by KFC, we urge you to look closer.
Before you refuse to donate, research the local organizations making a direct, measurable difference in your community. Your funding can be a literal lifesaver for smaller initiatives with deep roots and proven impact.
