PSFA serves daily nutritious cooked meals to 33,012 learners affected by poverty attending 379 educational institutions, including schools (primary, high & special needs), ECDs, OVC safe parks and TVET colleges. The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) is a registered non-profit organisation (002-878 NPO) established by the Rotary Club of Paarden Island, now Table Bay, to address childhood
hunger at schools in the Western Province of South Africa. PSFA has to date, provided over two billion nutritious meals to underprivileged school children, thus promoting a sound grounding for education, which is the key to everyone’s future. Hunger and malnutrition prevent the disadvantaged children on our feeding programme from learning. This leads to a lifetime of damage and continuation of the cycle of poverty – for the child, our society and our nation. PSFA currently provides daily nutritious cooked meals to a total of 34 942 learners at the following 413 educational institutions in the Western Cape:
25 185 learners at 149 primary, secondary and special needs schools
8 127 children at 254 Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs)
300 children at three Orphans and Vulnerable Children Centres (OVCs) safe parks and
1 330 students at seven Technical Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETs)
Over and above the ingredients supplied to each educational institution on our feeding programme, PSFA also provides gas stoves, gas bottles, gas when needed, pots, plates, eating spoons and cooking utensils. PSFA empowers and trains community members, usually unemployed parents, to prepare and serve meals at each school. All food stocks are stored at PSFA’s warehouse. PSFA contracts external transportation companies to ensure timely delivery of the ingredients to each school on our programme. PSFA employs Field Workers to manage, monitor and evaluate the proper implementation of our feeding at all the schools on our programme. Our Field Workers conduct regular site visits at their respective schools. Thanks to donor funding, PSFA has supplied 135 kitchens at schools that had inadequate facilities to prepare cooked meals. A donation of only R670 will enable PSFA to provide one hungry learner with a daily nutritious cooked breakfast and lunch while at school for an entire year. A donation of R71 will enable PSFA to provide the above for one month, and a donation of R20 100 will allow PSFA to feed a class of 30 learners for a year.
100% of all donations are allocated towards the direct cost of school feeding, PLUS all donations are tax-deductible! Visit our website, www.psfa.org.za, to make a secure online donation.
