With some of our team away for a well-deserved break, our Khula leaders have been stepping confidently into their roles — and we couldn’t be prouder.

Sustainability is at the heart of building a successful organisation, and that means developing a team who are empowered, capable and confident to keep things moving forward.

Our leaders have been taking on responsibility across our programmes, from delivering the education sessions at Mohlanatsi IRDP to continuing our SRHR workshops at Makikele High School - Phalaborwa Ga-Selwane as well as orchestrating the collection of flatbreads from Debonairs Pizza (Official)

Seeing them step up, take ownership and lead with such confidence is exactly what Khula Roots is all about — creating opportunities, building confidence and investing in the next generation of leaders.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LEADER?

As part of our vision for the future, we have initiated our Leadership Programme.

Over the past few weeks, youngsters have given up their Saturdays to learn how to become Khula ambassadors and what it means to truly ‘make a difference’, not just for their own benefit but for their community.

Investing in young people, giving them the skills and confidence to take an active role is also building sustainability for our organisation, helping our projects grow, meaning we can reach out to more people and ultimately more communities.

Give people confidence, encourage and belief and watch them grow.

Sometimes a small act of kindness can go a very long way.

After seeing our post last week, one of our eagle-eyed followers noticed young Tshiamo wearing two different shoes. Sadly, this is not an uncommon sight, in fact, many of the children we see don’t have shoes at all and go barefoot.

A donation was immediately given with one simple instruction:

“Get as many pairs of shoes as you can!”

And we did just that! With the sales underway, we were actually able to purchase 9 pairs of shoes, which were given to some of the children most in need this week at Mohlanatsi.

It’s a wonderful reminder of just how far a small donation can go.

The children couldn’t wait to pass on their special messages.

Children Helping Children

A huge thank you to the incredible 8th Sutton Coldfield East Beaver Colony in the UK for their generosity and kindness.

These amazing young people, all under the age of 10, raised money to support children they have never met. Thanks to their donation, Khula Roots was able to purchase stationery packs for 100 children at Mohlanatsi.

For many of us, a notebook, pencils and pens are the very basics things we simply expect to have. But for many of the children we work with, these everyday school essentials are a luxury that families simply cannot afford.

Receiving their own stationery means they can attend school equipped to learn, participate and take pride in their education.

It’s incredibly inspiring to see children helping children across continents. The compassion shown by the Beavers is a wonderful reminder that kindness has no age limit and no borders.

Sometimes, just one lesson can change the way a child sees the world.

This week, learning took on a whole new meaning. A conservation lesson exploring the devastating impact of rhino poaching through a slideshow and short film.

Every child watched with complete focus, absorbing the reality of what poaching truly means, not only for rhinos, but for our environment and our future.

One young learner, (pictured here), was completely captivated. His eyes never left the screen. It was a powerful reminder that education is about so much more than sharing facts. It is about nurturing empathy, inspiring curiosity, and helping young people understand that they have the power to make a difference.

At Khula Roots, we believe that meaningful conservation begins with education. Every conversation, every lesson, and every child we reach is an investment in a future where people and wildlife can thrive together.

As the new school term begins, our Relationships and Sexuality Education workshops continue.

This week, in partnership with Makikele High School - Phalaborwa Ga-Selwane, 21 Grade 8 girls, aged 14–15, completed the programme, learning about their bodies, their rights, their choices, and given the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

At Khula Roots, we believe that education is about so much more than the classroom. By working alongside schools to create safe spaces for honest conversations, we’re helping young people build confidence, understand themselves, and make empowered choices for their future.

Because knowledge is power, and every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive.

** MAKING A DIFFERENCE- ONE FLATBREAD AT A TIME **

We are proud, and especially grateful, to Debonairs Pizza (Official) for choosing Khula Roots as their designated beneficiary.

Every week Khula Roots provides a hot nutritious meal for more than 120 disadvantaged children. For some of these children this might be the only food they receive that day.

From excess dough, Debonairs transform unused and unwanted dough into flatbreads which they generously donate and form a welcome addition to our meal programme.

Thank you for your ongoing generosity and commitment to helping us to ensure no child goes hungry.
