Lots of questions, curiosity and engagement is always a positive as they start to learn more and begin to fully appreciate the incredible wildlife that we share our world with.

146 and counting!

Since starting our structured Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights programme at Makikele High School - Phalaborwa Ga-Selwane, Khula Roots has reached 146 students with knowledge that could potentially change the course of their lives.

Through our regular, age-appropriate sessions, we are equipping young people to make informed decisions about their futures.

• 146 opportunities to prevent
unintended pregnancy
• 146 opportunities to reduce the risk
of STIs
• 146 opportunities to stay in school
and complete their education

But these are not just numbers.

They are 146 young people who now have knowledge, confidence and greater power over their own futures.

The outcome is not guaranteed. But with knowledge comes choice, and with choice comes the power to change futures.

This is at the core of Khula Roots mission.

Empowering young people with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to shape their futures and create positive change in their communities.

146 reached. And this is just the beginning.

Leap of Faith

Trust. Confidence. Courage.

Sometimes you have to take a leap, trust yourself, and trust those around you.

A challenge that pushed the boys out of their comfort zones at our recent trip to Koru Camp — and showed them what they are truly capable of.

Empowering Future Generations

This weekend we celebrated the completion of our first Khula Roots Leaders Programme.

Empowerment is at the core of our mission — giving young people the confidence, skills and opportunities to shape their own futures, make a difference in their communities and help build a sustainable future for Khula Roots.

Through fun team-building activities and challenges, we celebrated their growth, commitment and potential.

Well done, Khula Leaders. We are incredibly proud of you all.

During our boys’ empowerment camp at Koru Camp, a herd of elephant quietly walked right past our game viewer, giving the boys an unforgettable close-up encounter with one of Africa’s most incredible animals.

Day 3 - Khula Roots Boys Empowerment Camp

Today was all about communication, teamwork and understanding the importance of working together.

Through a series of activities and challenges, the boys were encouraged to listen, communicate clearly, trust one another and recognise the strengths that each person brings to a team.

And, of course, the game drives continued to deliver some incredible wildlife encounters along the way.

Another invaluable day of learning, growing, challenging themselves and making memories together.

Heritage Day at Mohlanatsi IRDP

A day of learning, creativity and fun, celebrating cultures and heritage.

The children coloured rainbows, reflecting South Africa’s identity as the Rainbow Nation, learned about their heritage, before sharing some of their traditions of playing drums made with animal hides and traditional dancing.

A fun-filled day celebrating the diversity and cultures that make South Africa unique.
