GBV Awareness Programme held at Peddie Family Resource Centre Marks Women’s Month

Office of the Speaker together with the Women’s Caucus led by Cllr T. Dinginto in partnership with the Department of Social Development, the Commission for Gender Equality and various NGOs hosted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness event at the Peddie Family Resource Centre.

The programme is responding to a worrying increase in GBV cases within Ngqushwa, as well as the recurring challenge of victims withdrawing cases. The stakeholders used the platform to educate community members about their rights, available support systems and the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse.

As part of the day’s proceedings, Speaker Daniswa Ncanywa donated a microwave oven to the he Peddie Family Resource Centre that plays a vital role in the community, offering after-school care for children and providing a safe space for elderly residents who also engage themselves in sewing and other income-generating activities.

The initiative reinforces the commitment of Ngqushwa leadership and its partners to empowering and protecting vulnerable groups, particularly during Women’s Month.

Our young chess players had an amazing time at the tournament! They showed off their strategic skills and sportsmanship. The competition was fierce, but they played with enthusiasm and focus. We're so proud of their dedication to the game. Each player brought their unique style to the board. The tournament was a great learning experience for all.
