An incredible day helping our community here at Shamwari Conservation Experience . The people at AgeInAction Alicedale hosted us for the day and even taught us their gardening techniques as we created new seed beds at the center.

A new calf joins the herd just before the winter season. 🐘

During a recent monitoring session with our volunteers, we had the privilege of watching this little elephant explore the world for the very first time. The decision was made to name the calf Bohdi.

Photographing young elephants is never easy — and little Bohdi was no exception. The herd stayed tightly protective, surrounding the calf from every angle and reminding us just how strong elephant family bonds truly are.

On this Mother’s Day, moments like these remind us of the incredible dedication, protection, and care shown by elephant mothers and matriarchs in the wild. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, human and wild alike. šŸ¤

A day in the bush learning to read the ground beneath our feet. 🐾🌿

Our volunteers spent an incredible day out with Ranger Manager Andrew Kearney, diving into the fascinating art of tracking here at Shamwari Private Game Reserve. From subtle hoof prints to the faint drag of a tail in the dust, every mark tells a story — if you know how to read it.

For our coordinators and volunteers, training like this helps fill the gaps in our knowledge while strengthening our connection to the bush.

Because sometimes… the bush tells you everything — even when you can’t see the animals themselves.

🐾 Can you identify these tracks? Let us know in the comments!

🐦 Ever wondered how climate change is affecting the birds around us?

At SCE, we’re out in the reserve collecting real-time data on South Africa’s amazing birdlife — including 500+ species spotted right here in the Eastern Cape.

As birds shift their migratory and breeding habits due to habitat loss, we’re making sure this info gets into the hands of researchers at universities in Pretoria and Cape Town.

Because nature is always talking — we’re just helping to translate. šŸŒšŸ’š
