Behind every wagging tail is a family that cares. 🐾❤️

Through our Community Veterinary Programme, the Shamwari Conservation Experience team works with communities in Alicedale and Paterson, providing essential veterinary care to dogs, cats and other pets.

From health checks and vaccinations to parasite treatments, education, and spaying and neutering, every visit helps improve animal welfare and support the people who care for them.

But there is so much more we can do.

We are raising funds to establish a Mobile Veterinary Clinic that will allow our veterinary team to reach more communities, treat more animals and bring essential veterinary services directly to those who need them most.
With your support, we can turn this vision into a reality. Every donation, no matter the size, can help create healthier animals, stronger communities and a brighter future.

🩺🐆 A behind-the-scenes look at wildlife veterinary care!
Our individual volunteers were incredibly lucky to join Shamwari’s Wildlife Vet team for a hands-on veterinary operation involving a young sub-adult cheetah.

This cheetah had sustained an injury from a warthog during a failed hunt. After receiving treatment and being released, the young predator unfortunately reopened its stitches, requiring another round of expert veterinary attention.

Moments like these give our volunteers a rare insight into the challenges involved in wildlife conservation and the vital role our veterinary team plays in giving animals the best chance at recovery. 🌿❤️

Today, on World Ranger Day, we celebrate the incredible men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting South Africa's wildlife and wild spaces. 💚🌍

From sunrise patrols and wildlife monitoring to anti-poaching efforts and conservation management, rangers are the heartbeat of every protected area. Their courage, commitment, and passion ensure that future generations can continue to experience the magic of the African bush.

At Shamwari Conservation Experience, we're proud to work alongside these everyday heroes, giving our volunteers the opportunity to witness firsthand the vital role rangers play in conservation.

What an awesome weekend with Kesgrave HS!

Our volunteers got to experience a true South African tradition by cooking three delicious potjies: a chicken curry potjie, a beef potjie in a rich wine sauce, and a vegetarian potjie.

The day was rounded off with an entertaining presentation from local historian Basil Mills, who brought Eastern Cape history to life by dressing up our volunteers as some of the historical figures who helped shape the region's story.

A day filled with great food, laughter, and a deeper appreciation of South Africa's rich heritage.

Darting wild animals, especially sub-adult cheetahs like these siblings, is a delicate but essential part of conservation. It allows wildlife veterinarians to provide critical medical care while researchers collect valuable data to support the species' long-term survival.

One of the male cubs required immediate treatment for a wound caused by a warthog—injuries that can quickly become serious without intervention. His sister was fitted with a tracking collar, helping conservationists monitor her movements, habitat use, and behaviour to better understand and protect wild cheetah populations.

Both procedures play an important role in ensuring the health and future of these remarkable predators, highlighting the dedication of the teams working tirelessly to conserve them. 🐆

A few moments from the incredible experience shared with our latest GapAfrica group from Bicton College.🌿🦏

Together we tracked wildlife, explored the world of conservation, visited our local community, learned from passionate conservation professionals, and experienced the magic of the African bush.

Our first Wildlife Veterinary Experience group of the year has successfully wrapped up at Shamwari Private Game Reserve.

Working alongside our dedicated Wildlife Veterinary and Conservation team, participants gained valuable hands-on insight into the management and conservation of Africa's iconic wildlife.

If you're a veterinarian, veterinary nurse, veterinary student, or an active wildlife or veterinary professional, this is an opportunity to experience conservation medicine in the field.
