EDGAR LEGOALE FOUNDATION CELEBRATES CHAIRPERSON’S NOMINATION AMONG THE 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL FREE STATERS

18 October 2026
Parys, Free State

The Edgar Legoale Foundation is proud to announce and celebrate the nomination of its Founder and Chairperson, Mr Edgar Curtis Legoale, for recognition among the 100 Most Influential Free Staters, an initiative that celebrates individuals whose leadership, influence and contributions continue to make a meaningful difference across the Free State Province.

The nomination represents another significant milestone in the leadership journey of Mr Legoale, whose contributions to community development, youth empowerment, education, sports development, entrepreneurship, tourism promotion and economic transformation continue to leave a meaningful impact on communities across the province.

This nomination follows his recent recognition as one of the 2026 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans, under the Sport, Tourism & Hospitality category, a national recognition celebrating young South Africans who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and meaningful contributions within their respective sectors.

For the Edgar Legoale Foundation, these recognitions represent more than personal achievements. They reflect years of dedication, sacrifice, visionary leadership and an enduring commitment to creating opportunities for communities, particularly young people, to realise their full potential.

A JOURNEY OF LEADERSHIP, YOUTH ACTIVISM, PUBLIC SERVICE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Mr Legoale’s leadership journey extends beyond his role as Founder and Chairperson of the Edgar Legoale Foundation.

His background includes participation in political leadership structures, youth development organisations, business formations, public institutions and community development initiatives, through which he has contributed to youth empowerment, economic participation, entrepreneurship, public service and community development.

He previously served as the Regional Chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Fezile Dabi, where his leadership responsibilities included representing the interests and aspirations of young people within the region.

His involvement in organised youth leadership further extended to the South African Youth Council (SAYC), where he previously served as a National Executive Committee (NEC) Member and Free State Provincial Deputy Chairperson.

Separately, in the business development sector, Mr Legoale served as Treasurer General of the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, contributing to an organisation focused on advancing youth entrepreneurship, business participation and access to economic opportunities.

His commitment to youth development and public service was further demonstrated through his role as the Fezile Dabi Youth Coordinator in the Office of the Premier of the Free State, where he contributed to youth-focused coordination, stakeholder engagement and initiatives aimed at advancing youth development within the district.

Beyond his involvement in youth leadership and economic development, Mr Legoale also served on the Hospital Boards of Parys Hospital and Sasolburg Hospital, contributing to institutional governance and community representation within the public healthcare sector.

His participation in these structures reflects his involvement in strengthening community representation, public accountability and stakeholder participation in institutions responsible for delivering essential services.

These leadership responsibilities provided opportunities for engagement across political, civic, business and public service structures, contributing to his understanding of the challenges facing communities and the importance of building institutions that respond to those challenges.

His experience across these sectors continues to inform his approach to community development, which places particular emphasis on creating sustainable opportunities, strengthening partnerships and encouraging active youth participation in economic and social development.

A LEGACY OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT

Since establishing the Edgar Legoale Foundation in 2018, Mr Legoale has remained committed to advancing community development through sustainable initiatives addressing the social and economic challenges facing communities.

Under his leadership, the Foundation has championed programmes aimed at empowering young people, supporting education, nurturing sporting talent, promoting entrepreneurship and preserving the cultural heritage of local communities.

Among these initiatives is the Edgar Legoale Knockout Soccer Challenge, comprising the annual Easter and Festive Soccer Tournaments. These tournaments have developed into important platforms for grassroots football development, providing young athletes with opportunities to showcase their talents while promoting social cohesion, discipline and community participation.

In the education sector, his contributions include the annual Matric Awards Gala Dinner, NSFAS application support programmes, school motivational engagements and educational support initiatives aimed at encouraging academic excellence and widening access to opportunities.

Through initiatives such as Project 100 Schools, the Foundation has also supported learners through educational mentorship, school assistance and programmes intended to promote dignity and educational success.

His commitment to cultural preservation is reflected in the Tumahole Heritage Project and Tumahole Month Celebrations, which seek to promote local history, identity, arts, culture and intergenerational understanding.

The Foundation has further supported community upliftment through initiatives such as the Ngwathe SMME Expo, community hiking programmes and engagements with religious and community leaders, including the Church Leaders Gala Dinner, which recognises the important contribution of faith-based leadership towards community development.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION THROUGH THE MAIL & GUARDIAN 200 YOUNG SOUTH AFRICANS

Mr Legoale’s nomination among the 100 Most Influential Free Staters comes shortly after his inclusion in the prestigious 2026 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans, under the Sport, Tourism & Hospitality category.

This national recognition acknowledges his contribution to using sport, tourism and community-centred initiatives as vehicles for social and economic development.

The recognition also highlights the work undertaken through the Edgar Legoale Foundation, particularly in grassroots football development, educational support, cultural preservation and the creation of opportunities for young people.

His inclusion among the 200 Young South Africans represents an important acknowledgement of the impact of community-driven initiatives that originate at local level but contribute towards broader national development priorities.

The Foundation regards this recognition as an encouraging milestone, demonstrating the importance of sustained community service, visionary leadership and the continued development of platforms that empower young people.

A VISION FOR TOURISM AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

Beyond his philanthropic and civic contributions, Mr Legoale is the visionary Founder of the Ngwathe Experience, an initiative established to reposition Ngwathe as a destination for tourism, investment, entrepreneurship, entertainment and economic opportunity.

Through programmes such as the Ngwathe Tourism Expo, Business Breakfast, Golf Experience and Music Festival, the initiative has created platforms for collaboration between government, businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, tourism establishments and local communities.

The successful hosting of the Ngwathe Spring Experience in September 2026 marked another important milestone in advancing this vision, bringing together various sectors to stimulate local economic activity, promote tourism and create opportunities for local service providers, vendors, artists and young people.

The Ngwathe Experience reflects Mr Legoale’s belief that communities possess the resources, talent and potential necessary to drive their own economic growth when provided with appropriate platforms, partnerships and opportunities.

His work continues to demonstrate that community development must extend beyond charitable interventions to include sustainable economic participation, institutional partnerships, skills development and long-term empowerment.

FOUNDATION REFLECTS ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NOMINATION

Reflecting on the nomination, the Executive Assistant to the Chairperson of the Edgar Legoale Foundation expressed appreciation for the recognition of Mr Legoale’s leadership and contribution to community development.

“On behalf of the Edgar Legoale Foundation, we are immensely proud to celebrate the nomination of our Chairperson, Mr Edgar Curtis Legoale, among the 100 Most Influential Free Staters.

“This nomination comes at a particularly significant time, following his recent recognition among the 2026 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans. These milestones reflect the growing acknowledgement of his contribution to youth development, community empowerment, sport, tourism and economic transformation.

“Mr Legoale’s leadership journey has been characterised by his involvement in youth structures, business formations, public institutions and community development initiatives. Throughout these responsibilities, his commitment has remained centred on creating opportunities and contributing meaningfully to the development of society.

“His previous responsibilities within the South African Youth Council, the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Office of the Premier and hospital governance structures further demonstrate the breadth of his experience in leadership and public service.

“Those of us who work closely with him have witnessed his dedication, passion and determination to advance the interests of communities. His vision has always extended beyond individual achievement, focusing instead on creating platforms through which others can succeed.

“What makes this nomination particularly meaningful is that it also recognises the collective efforts of the communities, stakeholders, partners, volunteers and individuals who have supported the work of the Foundation over the years.

“We hope that his journey will continue to inspire young people across the Free State to recognise that leadership begins with service, responsibility and the willingness to make a difference in the lives of others.”

CELEBRATING LEADERSHIP THAT INSPIRES CHANGE

The Edgar Legoale Foundation believes that recognising individuals who contribute meaningfully to society plays an important role in promoting responsible leadership, active citizenship and a culture of community service.

Mr Legoale’s nomination among the 100 Most Influential Free Staters, together with his recent national recognition by the Mail & Guardian, reflects the significance of his contributions across youth leadership, public service, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, sport, education, tourism and community development.

As the Foundation celebrates this milestone, it remains committed to advancing the vision upon which it was established: building empowered communities, creating opportunities for young people and contributing towards a more inclusive and prosperous society.

The Foundation also extends its appreciation to the organisers of the 100 Most Influential Free Staters initiative for recognising individuals whose contributions continue to shape the social, cultural and economic development of the province.

AWARDS CEREMONY

The recognition event is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Friday, 23 October 2026
Time: 16h00
Venue: Civic Theatre, Bloemfontein, Free State

The Edgar Legoale Foundation extends its heartfelt congratulations to its Founder and Chairperson, Mr Edgar Curtis Legoale, on this nomination and wishes him well ahead of the upcoming recognition ceremony.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

EDGAR LEGOALE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF MS TSHEPO MOHAPI AS ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER OF THE NGWATHE EXPERIENCE

16 October 2026
Parys, Free State

The Edgar Legoale Foundation is pleased to officially announce the appointment of Ms Tshepo Mohapi as Assistant Project Manager of the Ngwathe Experience, marking another important step towards strengthening the management, administration and operational efficiency of one of the Foundation’s flagship initiatives.

The appointment forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to building a more structured, accountable and sustainable operational framework as the Ngwathe Experience continues to grow in scale, reach and impact.

Following the successful hosting of the Ngwathe Spring Experience in September 2026, which brought together tourism, business, sport, entertainment and community development activities, the Foundation has undertaken a comprehensive review of its operational systems, departmental coordination and overall event management processes.

The review has reinforced the importance of strengthening internal administration, improving communication between departments, ensuring adherence to implementation deadlines and establishing clearer systems of accountability.

Ms Mohapi’s appointment is a direct response to these operational priorities.

In her new capacity, Ms Mohapi will work under the leadership of Ms Nthabiseng Molejane, Project Manager of the Ngwathe Experience and Foundation Manager of the Edgar Legoale Foundation, whom she will assist in the overall management and coordination of the Experience.

Her primary responsibility will be to lead and oversee the administrative component of the Ngwathe Experience across all departments, ensuring that operational plans are supported by effective documentation, reporting systems, administrative controls and coordinated implementation.

Her responsibilities will extend across artist management, accreditation, ticketing, VIP and VVIP hospitality, supplier administration, safety and compliance documentation, marketing and communications support, stakeholder coordination, logistics, departmental reporting and the management of the Experience’s Master Implementation Checklist.

The Foundation wishes to emphasise that this appointment is not limited to the upcoming Ngwathe Summer Experience, but extends to the entire Ngwathe Experience programme, including its festivals, business engagements, tourism initiatives and other associated events.

As part of the strengthened management structure, the Office of the Chairperson, represented operationally by the Executive Assistant to the Chairperson, Penny Tshabalala, will continue to provide executive coordination and oversight support across the Experience’s operations, working closely with the Project Manager and the broader management team.

The Foundation is equally pleased to confirm that preparations for the Ngwathe Summer Experience, scheduled for 19 December 2026, are progressing through a structured implementation process.

Following the Spring Experience, departmental reviews and planning engagements have been prioritised to address operational challenges, strengthen service delivery, improve guest experiences and ensure greater coordination among artists, suppliers, security personnel, hospitality teams, vendors and other stakeholders.

The Foundation remains committed to ensuring that lessons learned from previous events translate into practical improvements, particularly in the areas of accreditation, access control, infrastructure readiness, hospitality, departmental communication and administrative accountability.

The Ngwathe Experience remains more than an entertainment platform. It is a growing initiative aimed at promoting tourism, stimulating local economic activity, creating opportunities for small businesses, supporting local talent and positioning Ngwathe as a destination for investment, culture and opportunity.

Through appointments such as this, the Foundation continues to invest in the internal capacity required to deliver these objectives effectively.

The Office of the Chairperson welcomes Ms Mohapi into her expanded leadership role and expresses confidence in her ability to contribute towards improved administrative discipline, stronger departmental coordination and the continued professionalisation of the Ngwathe Experience.

The Foundation calls upon all departmental heads, partners, service providers and stakeholders to extend their cooperation and support to Ms Mohapi as she assumes her responsibilities.

The Edgar Legoale Foundation remains committed to building an institution characterised by excellence, accountability, teamwork and meaningful community impact.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

EDGAR LEGOALE FOUNDATION WISHES THE CLASS OF 2026 WELL AHEAD OF THEIR FINAL MATRIC EXAMINATIONS

13 October 2026
Parys, Free State

The Edgar Legoale Foundation extends its warmest wishes to the Class of 2026 as matric learners across the Free State and South Africa prepare to enter one of the most important periods of their schooling journey: the final National Senior Certificate examinations.

For every matric learner, this moment represents the culmination of years of learning, sacrifice, discipline, perseverance and personal growth.

It is also a period that often comes with pressure, uncertainty and expectation. The Edgar Legoale Foundation therefore encourages every learner to approach the examinations with confidence, discipline and a clear understanding that the work they have put in throughout the year has prepared them for this moment.

The Foundation recognises that matric is not simply the completion of Grade 12.

For many young people, it represents the gateway to higher education, skills development, entrepreneurship, employment and the next stage of their personal development.

The Class of 2026 has reached an important milestone, and the Foundation believes that every learner deserves to enter this examination period knowing that their families, educators, schools and communities are standing behind them.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND TRUST YOUR PREPARATION

As learners begin writing their final examinations, the Edgar Legoale Foundation encourages them to believe in themselves and trust the preparation that has brought them this far.

Months of lessons, revision, tests, assignments, extra classes and sacrifices have all contributed towards this moment.

While the examination period may feel overwhelming, learners are encouraged to approach each paper individually and to focus on one question, one subject and one day at a time.

The Foundation further encourages learners not to allow one difficult paper or one challenging question to determine how they approach the rest of their examinations.

Matric examinations are completed over a period of time, and every new paper provides another opportunity to apply what has been learned and to perform to the best of one’s ability.

Learners should remain focused, manage their time responsibly, rest adequately and continue preparing consistently throughout the examination period.

The Foundation’s message to every matriculant remains simple:

Believe in yourself, trust your preparation and take each paper one question at a time. Your hard work has brought you this far — finish strong.

EDUCATION REMAINS CENTRAL TO OUR WORK

Education and youth development remain among the most important pillars of the Edgar Legoale Foundation.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Foundation has continued to support initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to take their education seriously, access opportunities and develop the confidence necessary to pursue meaningful futures.

Through school engagements, learner support initiatives, educational campaigns, career development programmes and partnerships, the Foundation continues to work alongside schools and communities in supporting young people at different stages of their educational journeys.

The Foundation also continues to recognise and celebrate academic excellence.

Every year, the Edgar Legoale Foundation hosts a programme honouring outstanding matriculants and schools within Tumahole and Circuit 5, recognising learners who have achieved exceptional academic results and schools that continue to contribute towards educational excellence in the community.

The annual recognition programme forms part of the Foundation’s belief that academic achievement should not only be acknowledged, but celebrated in a manner that inspires younger learners to understand what can be achieved through discipline, consistency and commitment.

Through initiatives such as the Project 100 Schools programme, educational support activities and its continued engagement with schools, the Foundation remains committed to ensuring that young people are exposed to positive role models, information and opportunities that can assist them in making informed decisions about their futures.

CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 2026

The Founder and Chairperson of the Edgar Legoale Foundation, Mr Edgar Legoale, recently addressed matric learners during the Free State Department of Education, Fezile Dabi District Circuit 5 Matric Pledge Signing and Prayer Session, where he had been invited to deliver the keynote address.

The session, held at Phehellang Secondary School in Parys, brought together matric learners, educators, parents and education stakeholders as the Class of 2026 prepared for the final examination period.

During his keynote address, Mr Legoale urged learners not to allow themselves to lose focus during the final stretch of their matric journey and encouraged them to make full use of the remaining time available to prepare for their examinations.

Addressing the learners, the Chairperson said:

“This is not the time for you to lose focus. This is not the time to become careless. This is not the time to suddenly decide that studying is no longer important. Studying is very important.

“I am asking you today to finish what you started. You do not have to be perfect, but you must give these examinations everything that you have.

“I always tell my team to go all out, and today, I am saying the same to you: Go all out in these examinations!

“One day, you do not want to look back and say, ‘I could have studied harder. I could have attended that extra class. I could have put my phone down. I could have asked my teacher for help.’

“Do it now, while you still have time.”

Mr Legoale’s message to the learners forms part of the Foundation’s broader belief that young people must be encouraged not only to dream about their futures, but also to understand the discipline, sacrifice and responsibility required to turn those aspirations into reality.

The Foundation believes that his message remains particularly relevant as thousands of matric learners now enter the final stages of preparation for their examinations.

There is still time to revise.

There is still time to attend that extra lesson.

There is still time to ask a teacher for assistance.

There is still time to put away unnecessary distractions and concentrate on the work that needs to be done.

The opportunity to prepare is still available, and learners are encouraged to use it.

MATRIC IS A MILESTONE, NOT THE END OF THE JOURNEY

The Edgar Legoale Foundation encourages learners to remember that while matric is a significant milestone, it is not the end of their journey.

The results they receive will open different pathways, but no young person should believe that one examination period defines the total value of their life or their future potential.

For some learners, the next chapter may be university or college.

For others, it may be technical and vocational education, skills development, entrepreneurship, employment, a learnership, an internship or another opportunity that allows them to continue learning and developing.

What remains important is that young people continue moving forward, seeking information, asking for guidance and remaining open to the different pathways available to them.

The Foundation therefore encourages matriculants to begin thinking beyond the examination room and to prepare themselves for the responsibilities and opportunities that will follow the completion of Grade 12.

Young people must be encouraged not only to pass matric, but to begin developing a clear understanding of the futures they want to build and the steps required to reach those goals.

A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT LEARNERS

While learners carry the responsibility of writing their examinations, supporting them during this period remains a collective responsibility.

The Edgar Legoale Foundation calls upon parents, guardians, educators, families and communities to continue creating supportive environments for matric learners throughout the examination period.

This support can take many forms.

Sometimes it is providing a quiet environment in which a learner can study.

Sometimes it is offering encouragement when they feel overwhelmed.

Sometimes it is ensuring that learners are able to rest, eat properly and arrive at their examination centres on time.

And sometimes it is simply reminding them that they are not walking through this important period alone.

Educators must also be recognised for the work they have invested throughout the year in preparing learners academically and emotionally for the examinations.

Teachers, principals, school governing bodies, education officials, parents and support staff all play an important role in ensuring that learners are provided with the environment and support necessary to complete their schooling journey successfully.

The Foundation acknowledges and appreciates the commitment of educators who continue to give their time, knowledge and support to learners, particularly during this critical final period.

TO THE CLASS OF 2026

To every learner preparing to sit for the final matric examinations, the Edgar Legoale Foundation wishes you strength, focus and success.

There may be moments when you feel nervous.

There may be papers that challenge you.

There may be days when the pressure feels greater than expected.

In those moments, remember how far you have already come.

You have completed years of schooling, overcome challenges, written countless assessments and continued moving forward until you reached this point.

Do not allow fear to overshadow your preparation.

Do not compare your journey to somebody else’s.

Enter every examination room determined to give your best, remain focused on the paper in front of you and leave knowing that you gave the opportunity everything you could.

Whatever your circumstances may have been during your schooling journey, this moment belongs to you.

Use it well.

OUR MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 2026

The Edgar Legoale Foundation remains committed to supporting young people through education, sport, youth development, leadership, entrepreneurship and community-based programmes that create opportunities for them to build better futures.

As the Class of 2026 begins this important final chapter of secondary school, we want every learner to know that their communities are behind them.

The examination period will eventually end, but the discipline, determination and resilience developed along the journey will continue to serve you long after matric.

We therefore encourage every learner to enter this period with confidence.

Prepare thoroughly.

Remain disciplined.

Protect your focus.

Attend that extra class.

Put the phone down when it is time to study.

Ask your teachers for help when you need it.

Believe in your ability.

And above all, go all out and finish strong.

Class of 2026, you’ve got this. We’re rooting for you.

With best wishes from the Edgar Legoale Foundation.
