A huge thank you to the three ladies who sponsored our Mother's Day tea time treats. We are so grateful for their kindness and generosity. We appreciate your support for these wonderful people. Lunch was prepared by our talented in-house chefs and was enjoyed by all, with our elderly members taking leftovers home for the next day. We are thankful to all our donors for making this event a success. Thanks also go to Dimitris Bakery, Confectionary and Catering Service, Nush Beckett, and Gabrielle's Cakery. What is a Mother's Day without mothers, flowers, friends, and a few tears? We were honored to listen to some of our elderly share stories of their childhood and their accomplishments, and others spoke about being thankful for having mothers who were also friends. One elderly lady wrote a heartfelt poem to her late mother, sitting at the table, moved by others' stories. We spoiled our elderly mothers with love, and they left feeling truly cherished.

During our visit to Franschhoek, we lunched at Smitten, where Chris Smit, a former TV chef and co-owner, provided an outstanding experience. The food was superb, and the service was warm and welcoming. Chris also took the time to pose for a photo and extended his best wishes for our return journey. We will certainly be back, Chris.

Our elderly group recently enjoyed an outing in Franschhoek, participating in exercise activities within a park where they utilized equipment with their arms and feet, all while Gert Muller closely supervised and instructed them on proper gym usage. A visit to Franschhoek became a day filled with exercise, tea time in a scenic setting which was then followed by a leisurely walk around the beautiful town and lunch at Smitten. The enthusiasm of the elderly among us provided immense entertainment and will be remembered.

As proud chefs, we have a deep passion for preparing traditional South African dishes that bring people together and celebrate our rich culture. Cooking is more than just their profession — it is their hobby, their comfort, and their way of sharing love with others. From hearty meat pies, to boboti and many others, every meal tells a story of heritage and community. Add some rice, greenbean stew and a baked pumpkin tart you have a delicious winter plate of food. One of the greatest privileges for them are cooking for the less fortunate, knowing that a warm meal can bring hope, dignity, and a sense of care to someone in need.

We are thrilled to have met the people from Unchain our Township in Khayelitsha, an organization that provides rehabilitation services for individuals dealing with drug and alcohol addiction. The pastor's words resonated deeply with us. Upon hearing the stories from the students and social worker about their experiences, we were deeply moved and in awe. We extend our prayers to everyone involved in this noble cause, including the individuals receiving support and those providing assistance.
