SADC Banking Association

SADC Banking Association As a participant on the payment’s sub-committee, the SADCBA is intrinsically involved in their ground breaking Payments Project.

Over the years the SADCBA has increased its participation on CCBG sub-committee structures and today it plays an active role in the payments, financial markets, banking supervision, and exchange control sub-committees. The SADCBA views this project as being both strategic and necessary for the advancement of banking in SADC. Beyond the CCBG agenda, the SADCBA provides a regional banking leadership

platform for strategic direction to be given on matters pertinent to the transformation of the banking sector in the region. Being conscious of a collective duty to promote and transform the whole of SADC into a dynamic and well integrated economic block, the SADCBA is taking the necessary steps to maximise the cooperation of member banking associations to encourage, inter alia:
• The creation of an environment for the development and proliferation of harmonised, inclusive, and sustainable banking services in SADC.
• Co-operation with national regulators in the pursuit of complementary goals in order to achieve integrity and credibility with respect to banking services in the region.
• Improved technical and regulatory capacity of member associations to make their financial markets more attractive to both regional and international investors.

Ten years on, financial inclusion in SADC has come a long way — but the work continues.

At the closing of the Forum, one thing remains clear: access alone is not enough.

While more people can now access financial services, challenges remain around affordability, usage and relevance - especially for households, rural communities and MSMEs.

The focus is on impact: making financial systems work better for people and businesses in their daily lives.

Thank you to all partners, speakers and participants who contributed to this important conversation. More insights will be shared soon.

Upskilling the Future of SADC Payments!

Last week, we successfully concluded the TCIB Payments Training in Luanda, Angola (December 1–5, 2025). The goal was clear: empower Business, Operations, and Technical teams with the expertise needed to manage and scale TCIB implementations.

The training was highly effective, with participants commending the trainers' technical expertise and dynamic approach. Our main takeaway from participant feedback? The immense value of in-person engagement—a vital factor for mastering complex payment concepts and building necessary regulatory alignment.

We're excited to see these trained teams drive the next phase of digital payment transformation in Angola and the wider SADC region.
