🏫 12 SCHOOLS. HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN. ONE INCREDIBLE WEEK.

This week, our dental team reached children across 6 primary schools and 6 high schools:

Primary Schools:

🦷 De Rust Primary
🦷 De Villiers Primary
🦷 Colridge Primary
🦷 Sacred Heart Primary
🦷 Bergsig Primary

High Schools:
🦷 School of Skills
🦷 Aurial College
🦷 Môrester High School
🦷 Protea High School
🦷 Fezekile Secondary
🦷 Bridgton Secondary

And when we look at the final numbers, it is hard not to say WOW! 🤩

What started as an idea to make a difference has turned into a week of incredible teamwork, compassion and service — reaching children who may otherwise not have had access to much-needed dental care.

We are so proud of what was achieved together. 🌟

Rotary in action. People serving people. Creating lasting impact.

A huge thank you to every dentist, dental assistant, volunteer, teacher, school and Rotary member who played a part.

And to everyone who cooked, served, welcomed, organised, transported, assisted and simply stepped in wherever needed — you helped make this week possible. 🙏👏

🦷✨ WHAT A WAY TO END DENTAL WEEK! ✨🦷

Today was the final day of our Dental Week — and our busiest day yet! 🫢🦷

And what a day it was…

226 children were seen today, bringing the total number of children reached during this incredible week to an amazing 666 children! 👏👏🌟

And TODAY ALONE, the dental team managed to:

🦷 284 teeth extracted that were causing pain and discomfort
🦷 28 fillings
🦷 104 fissure sealants
🦷 28 scale & polish treatments
🦷 104 fluoride treatments

Just take a moment to let those numbers sink in.

Behind every number is a child who received care, a child relieved of pain, and a child given the opportunity for a healthier smile.🙏

We were also so pleased to welcome members of the Rotary Club of Knysna for lunch today. It was wonderful to have them join us and meet some of the amazing dental professionals and staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the week.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every dentist, dental assistant, volunteer, organiser, school and Rotarian who played a part in making this project such an incredible success.

And a very special thank you to our Rotary members who went above and beyond behind the scenes — from planning this huge project to preparing and hosting the welcome reception on Sunday evening, to transporting children and providing entertainment for the kids while they wait their turn and serving meals to the staff throughout the week. Your generosity, time and hospitality helped make everyone feel so welcome and cared for. 💙

And an incredible team that simply refused to stop. 🌟

🦷💙 ROTARY DENTAL WEEK – CREATING HEALTHY SMILES! 💙🦷

For the second year, the Rotary Club of Oudtshoorn is proud to host RotaryDent, an initiative that brings much-needed dental care to primary school children in our community.

RotaryDent was initiated in Knysna two years ago, and we are grateful for the continued support of the Rotary Club of Knysna, who are helping to make this year's project possible. 🤝💙

This week, dentists and dental assistants from across our Rotary District have come together to give their time, skills and compassion to make a difference.

The children were first screened by our participating dentists, with consent forms sent home to parents and returned to their schools. Each day this week, children from different schools are transported to the Seppie Greeff Building, where our dental team is caring for the children.

Our programme was planned to include extractions, cleanings, fillings and fissure sealants. Unfortunately, due to the current power outage, we have had to adapt our programme and are currently able to perform extractions.

Despite the challenges, our dedicated team continues to serve – because Service Above Self means finding a way to make a difference, even when circumstances don't go according to plan.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the dentists, dental assistants, schools, parents and everyone involved in making RotaryDent possible.

Together, we are investing in the health and wellbeing of our children – and helping to put more healthy smiles on their faces! 😊🦷

💙 GOOD DEEDS DAY – AUGUSTUS 💙

By Rotary glo ons dat ’n verjaarsdag nie net ’n dag is om te ontvang nie, maar ook ’n geleentheid om iets terug te gee. 🎉

Met ons Good Deeds Day-inisiatief kry elke lid wat in ’n spesifieke maand verjaar die geleentheid om ’n goeie daad van hul keuse te doen – met ’n klein bydrae vanuit ons klub se begroting.

Omdat Augustus ook Vrouemaand is, is daar besluit om ’n ma te ondersteun wat haar hart en huis oopgemaak het om drie kinders in haar sorg op te neem. 🙏❤️

Vandag het ons, in samewerking met die Welsynskantoor in Oudtshoorn, vir die gesin kos en klere gaan skenk.

Ons is ook dankbaar dat ons nie alleen hoef te staan nie. Die maatskaplike werkers is steeds besig om die gesin te ondersteun en te help met belangrike dokumentasie en registrasie, sodat die kinders toegang kan kry tot die ondersteuning en voordele waarop hulle geregtig is.

Saam kan ons in ons gemeenskap saamstaan, saamwerk en ’n verskil maak.🙌💫
