A powerful day of growth and opportunity ✨

We had the Matrics from our Footprint Schools visit the Michaelhouse IT Lab for an impactful Eduvelopment session. It was truly a success! Not only did learners gain valuable insights on available post matric courses, but some were also able to secure bursary support to help shape their futures 🙌

Moments like these remind us how important guidance is in unlocking potential. The future is bright!! 📚

A New Beginning for Lions River’s Young Learners

On 18 March, the Michaelhouse Community Partnership Trust (MCPT) proudly opened the Lions River Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre - a major step forward for early learning in the community.

This new centre provides safe classrooms, sanitation facilities, a playground, and dedicated learning spaces, creating a strong foundation for children aged 2–5, a crucial stage in their development.

The project was made possible through the generous support of the Albert Wessels Trust, Bright Kid Foundation, Michaelhouse CPT, Peter Wentzel, and the Lions River community. Special thanks also to Michaelhouse Community Service boys, who donated blankets to help keep the children warm this winter.

This centre replaces the previous facility of old Wendy houses and a dilapidated kitchen, bringing renewed hope and opportunity to young learners and their families.

Together, we continue working toward our vision: stronger schools, stronger communities, and children who believe in their potential.

On 17 March 2026, the Michaelhouse Community Partnership Trust hosted its annual Principals’ Leadership Workshop at the Michaelhouse Centenary Centre.

Guided by the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” the workshop created a collaborative space for principals from our partner schools to reflect on the realities of leading schools in challenging environments. The discussions focused on the practical difficulties principals face in managing school operations and ensuring effective learning, while also addressing broader challenges that impact their schools and communities.

The session was facilitated by Steuart Pennington (Michaelhouse alumnus and board member) and Karen McKenzie from Citizen Leader Lab. Through their facilitation, principals were introduced to practical tools and fresh perspectives designed to strengthen leadership, encourage collaboration, and help school leaders approach complex challenges with greater confidence and clarity.

Workshops such as these are an important part of building a strong network of school leaders who support one another and work together to improve education in their communities.

A Coding and Robotics training workshop was held on 14-15 March 2026, bringing together 30 teachers and education helpers to strengthen their knowledge of digital learning and STEM education the KCA (Keep A Child Alive) programme.

On the first day, participants worked with Scratch programming, learning core coding concepts and developing their own interactive projects. The projects were then presented to the group, creating a space for collaboration and shared learning.

The second day introduced participants to Micro-bit robotics, where they explored device features such as LED programming, radio communication, and sound detection. The training ended with a mini hackathon and a safeguarding session focused on maintaining safe and supportive learning environments.

This workshop provided educators with practical skills and ideas they can apply in their classrooms to support coding, robotics, and digital skills development among learners.

Empowering Teachers, Strengthening Education

On Saturday, 7 March, the Michaelhouse Community Partnerships Trust (MHS CPT), in partnership with KwaZulu-Natal Independent Khanyisa Inanda Seminary Community Projects (KICP) hosted another successful continuous development workshop at Thembelihle Primary School Hall.

During the session, teachers focused on improving literacy skills and shared practical strategies to keep up with the ever-changing education system and technology. It was inspiring to see experienced educators committed to growing their skills and improving learning outcomes for their students.

These workshops continue to highlight the importance of quality education, not only within our 16 partner schools, but across the wider community.

Our Community Partnerships Trust needs your support so that we can continue reaching more schools and helping promote better education for all.

The Early Childhood Development (ECD) project remains one of the cornerstone initiatives within the 13 Michaelhouse Community Partnerships Trust (MCPT) projects, recognising that strong foundations in early learning are critical to long-term educational success.

As part of this commitment, ECD teachers recently participated in an engaging teacher training workshop facilitated by Kim from Grow ECD at Michaelhouse, focusing on the innovative learning tools LEGO Education and Finding Thabo.

During the session, teachers were introduced to the LEGO and Finding Thabo educational resources and explored practical ways to integrate them into their weekly classroom themes. The training demonstrated how learning through play can significantly enhance creativity, problem-solving, and early literacy skills in young learners.

Teachers also had the opportunity to work hands-on with LEGO, discovering practical methods to incorporate play-based learning into their daily teaching practices. Each participant received a Finding Thabo guide and classroom posters to support implementation, while the LEGO resource boxes will be delivered soon.

By strengthening teacher capacity and providing high-quality learning resources, the ECD project continues to play a vital role among MCPT’s 13 projects, helping ensure that children in our partner communities begin their education journey with strong cognitive, social, and developmental foundations.
