What a fantastic evening for the KZN Crane Foundation at Notties Hotel on Wednesday night!

We were privileged to hear from two remarkable cyclists whose stories of determination, resilience, and adventure captivated everyone in attendance. Kemsley Wood shared insights into his incredible success in the Freedom Challenge, while Ron Rutland inspired us with stories from his extraordinary cycling journey around Africa and Europe, as well as his preparations for this year's Freedom Challenge.

A sincere thank you to Ron and Kemsley for your time, Notties Hotel for hosting us so generously and to everyone who attended and supported the event. Your support makes a real difference.

The funds raised from the evening will be invested directly into the maintenance and development of our trail network, helping us continue to provide exceptional nature-based experiences while conserving the beautiful landscapes of the BBCONR.

With the start of the fire season upon us, preparations are well underway on the BBCONR. John Pitout and his team have been hard at work creating tracer breaks in readiness for our fire breaks. These important preparatory steps are essential to ensure safe, controlled, and effective burns as part of our ongoing grassland management.

A huge thank you to John and his team for all their hard work and commitment in helping us protect and manage this special landscape.

We were pleased to host Cobus Botha from the KZN Department of Agriculture recently. Cobus has been doing assessments on the BBCONR since 2009!
These assessments take place every 5 years and have become a huge part of our grassland management.
Thank you for taking the time to visit us and share your expertise. We greatly appreciate your invaluable feedback on the health of our grasslands and your insights into the ongoing management of this important ecosystem. Opportunities like these are so valuable as we continue working to preserve and protect our beautiful grasslands for the future.

Last Friday, we welcomed the learners from Middlefield Primary School to the Bill Barnes Crane and Oribi Nature Reserve for an educational visit.
The learners thoroughly enjoyed exploring our education trail, discovering the beauty of nature firsthand and learning more about the incredible biodiversity found within the reserve. Experiences like these are such an important part of inspiring the next generation to appreciate and protect our natural world.
Thank you to our sponsors for allowing us to host these learners.
