Last week was a busy and rewarding one on the reserve, filled with enthusiastic learners and dedicated educators enjoying time out on our Education Trail!
Exploring, discovering and learning together, the groups had the opportunity to learn about wetlands, biodiversity and the importance of protecting and valuing our shared environment. Experiences in nature like these help to inspire curiosity, understanding and a deeper connection to the world around us.
A huge thank you to our sponsors who make these valuable school excursions possible. Your support gives so many young learners the opportunity to experience, learn and grow through nature. We are truly grateful!

A huge thank you to Neil Puntis for these stunning photographs, captured during his bird walk and our recent game count evening. It is always so rewarding to see the incredible variety of birdlife and animal life that calls the reserve home.
From the smallest feathered visitors to the wonderful wildlife encountered along the way, these images are a beautiful reminder of just how special the BBCONR is. We are privileged to experience and protect such a rich and diverse natural environment.
Thank you, Neil, for sharing these moments with us!

There is something special about following the trail, spotting the little footprints left behind by the young students who have enjoyed exploring the reserve and taking in the incredible beauty all around us (even a special encounter with some of the young calves enjoying lunch).
Being able to experience the Bill Barnes Crane and Oribi Nature Reserve is such a privilege, and every walk offers a new opportunity to connect with this special landscape.

Great information on grasslands!

🌾Grasslands have largely been overlooked in global conservation and climate commitments so far.

But they are beginning to receive more attention: Research is shedding light on grasslands' many benefits. The UNCCD COP17 is a major opportunity to elevate restoring land and the people behind on it on countries’ economic agendas.

Now, this growing awareness must translate to action. Learn more about the many benefits of grasslands 👉 https://go.wri.org/grassland-benefits-fb

A wonderful reminder of the incredible wildlife we are privileged to protect here at the Bill Barnes Crane and Oribi Nature Reserve.

The group enjoyed perfect weather as they explored the reserve, learning, discovering and making special memories along the way. And to make their visit even more memorable, they had the privilege of witnessing a beautiful fly-over by a pair of Blue Cranes.
We love sharing the wonders of our natural environment with young learners and inspiring the next generation of conservationists. Thank you, Sibonokuhle Primary School, for spending these special days with us!

The majestic Drakensberg Mountains are beautifully blanketed in snow this morning, creating a breathtaking backdrop to an icy start on the reserve. While we are certainly feeling the winter chill, the crisp, clear skies and stunning views remind us just how fortunate we are to call this incredible landscape home.
Days like these showcase the unique beauty of the KZN Midlands, where every season brings something special to appreciate.
If you're wrapped up warm, this is one of those mornings that makes you stop, take a deep breath, and simply admire nature's handiwork.
