🐾🔥 4th Claremont Fernwood Cubs – Fire Safety Adventure Night! 🔥🐾

What an action-packed evening of learning, teamwork and fun! Our Cubs became Fire Safety Rangers as they tackled a smoke escape maze, learned emergency fire procedures, practised safe match-lighting skills, and discovered how conservation stoves help protect our environment. 🚒🌿

The highlight of the evening was the Great Cub Flapjack Challenge, where our young chefs cooked delicious flapjacks while demonstrating excellent fire safety, teamwork and outdoor cooking skills. 🥞👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

It was also a special evening of recognition, with many badges being awarded to Cubs who have worked hard throughout the term. Every badge represents effort, perseverance and the willingness to learn new skills, and we are incredibly proud of all our Cubs. ⚜️🏅

Most importantly, a huge congratulations goes to Robyn, who achieved her Leaping Wolf Badge this evening after months of hard work, commitment and dedication. The Leaping Wolf is a significant milestone in a Cub Scout’s journey and reflects consistent effort across a wide range of skills and activities.

🌟 Well done, Robyn! The Pack is proud of you, and your achievement is an inspiration to all our Cubs. 🌟

Thank you to all our leaders, helpers and parents who continue to support our young people as they grow in confidence, character and capability.

As we close out the final meeting of Term 2, we wish all our Cub families a safe and enjoyable holiday.

🐺⚜️ Fun, Friendship, Adventure and Skills for Life! ⚜️🐺

🌲🐺 CUBS RAMBLE ADVENTURE — CECILIA TO KIRSTENBOSCH 🥾🌿
Wednesday, 27 May 2026

What an exciting evening our Cubs had exploring the beautiful trails between Cecilia Forest and Kirstenbosch! 🌳✨

Tonight’s ramble focused on hiking skills, nature awareness, outdoor safety, and emergency signalling — all while enjoying one of Cape Town’s most historic and beautiful forest routes beneath the slopes of Table Mountain. ⛰️

The Cubs learnt about:
🧭 The buddy system
🚶 Hiking rules and outdoor safety
♻️ Caring for nature through the Cub Outdoor Code
🌿 Respecting wildlife, plants, and keeping our environment litter-free

Along the trail, our Silver Wolves sharpened their observation skills by listening to forest sounds and searching for interesting natural objects like leaves, seeds, feathers, berries, and stones. 🍂🪶🌰 The Cubs paused quietly to appreciate the sounds of the forest and the beauty around them.

We even met up with a young red-lipped herald snake slithering across the trail path! 🐍 The Cubs also listened carefully for the calls of two special frogs found on Table Mountain — the Cape Mountain Rain Frog and the Peninsula Chirping Moss Frog. 🐸🌧️

Meanwhile, our Gold Wolves tackled an important outdoor survival challenge: “Lost in the Veld.” They discussed what to do if separated or lost on the mountain, natural dangers such as mist, rain, and snakes, and how to make emergency distress signals using:
🔦 Torch flashes and SOS signals
🧥 Bright clothing laid out for visibility
📢 Shouting, whistles, and listening carefully for rescuers

We even tested knowledge about where the sun rises and sets! ☀️

A special highlight was walking through historic Cecilia Forest — an area rich in Cape history, biodiversity, and conservation significance. The Cubs explored a landscape shaped by indigenous heritage, forestry history, mountain streams, and incredible fynbos biodiversity. 🌺🦉

Thank you to all leaders, parents, and Cubs for making the evening such a memorable outdoor adventure. A huge shoutout as well to YELLOW SIX for duty tonight! 🟨🐺

Adventure. Learning. Nature. Teamwork.
That’s what Cubs is all about! 💛💚

Hello all 🌍🧭

Tonight at Cubs we worked on the Geocaching Badge! The Cubs learnt about geocaching, how to use coordinates and technology to locate hidden caches, and the excitement of outdoor treasure hunting.

To complete the badge, each Cub still needs to find and log one more cache independently. This can be done using the official Geocaching app or by visiting the website:
https://www.geocaching.com

We encourage families to make an outing of it — there are many caches hidden around Cape Town and it’s a fantastic way to explore the outdoors together while building navigation and problem-solving skills.

Happy caching everyone, and good luck finding that final cache! 🧭📍🌿

🐾 Cubs Scouts Adventure – Flags & Countries! 🌍
Wednesday, 6 May 2026

What an action-packed evening we had with our Cubs as we explored the exciting world of flags and countries!

The evening kicked off with a proud Opening Ceremony and Grand Howl, where the Cubs hoisted the flag and sang the national anthem with great spirit 🇿🇦. A big well done to Blue Six for preparing the flagpole beforehand!

The energy quickly ramped up with a thrilling mini Capture the Flag game. Cubs took on roles as runners, guards, strategists, and rescuers—showing teamwork, quick thinking, and lots of enthusiasm (and plenty of star jumps too! 💪😄).

During our learning session, Cubs split into their groups:
🎨 Silver Wolves got creative by drawing and colouring the South African flag while learning about the meaning behind its colours.
🧠 Gold Wolves dug deeper into the parts of a flag—like the hoist, fly, halyard, and pole—and even tested their knowledge!

We explored why flags are important, what they represent, and some fun facts—like how Nepal has the only non-rectangular flag in the world! 🇳🇵

Next up, Cubs got hands-on with knots and flag handling, practicing the sheet bend and learning how to correctly raise and lower a flag with respect and care. Great teamwork and focus were on display here!

To finish off, we held a Flag Relay Challenge, where teams raced to tie knots, attach flags, and simulate hoisting. Speed, skill, and teamwork made for an exciting finale! 🏁

We closed the evening by lowering the flag respectfully, reflecting on what we learned, and sharing a few notices.

👏 Well done to all our Cubs for their energy, teamwork, and willingness to learn new skills. You made us proud!

See you next week for more adventure! 🐾✨

🌱 Cubs Go Green! 🌱

This evening at Cubs, our theme was “Grow” – and what a fantastic time we had getting our hands dirty and learning all about plants! 🌿

The Cubs discovered just how important plants are for our survival, including how places like the Amazon rainforest play a huge role in producing the oxygen we breathe. We also spoke about how cutting down trees for things like cattle farming can have a serious impact on our environment.

Then it was time to get practical! 🌼
The Cubs decorated their own plant pots, made compost, and planted spekboom cuttings – a proudly South African plant known for its amazing ability to absorb carbon dioxide.

Now we wait and watch… 👀🌱 We’re excited to see how their plants grow over the coming weeks!

Great work tonight, Cubs – you’re helping grow a greener future! 💚
See you next week!

🐺🪢 Cubs Scouts Adventure Night – Knotting Fun! 🪢🐺

What a fantastic evening we had at Cubs on 22 April 2026—filled with energy, teamwork, and new skills!

We kicked off with our Grand Howl, proudly led by Duty Six: Yellow, before diving into the theme of the night—the importance of knots. From sailing ships to building and farming, Cubs learned how these simple skills have shaped the world around us. 🌍⚓

Things quickly got lively with an exciting tug of war 💪—a great way to burn off energy and experience just how important teamwork (and a good grip!) can be.

Each Cub then made their own “pet rope”, sealing and decorating it to take home. These became their personal tools for learning and practicing knotting skills. 🪢

Splitting into Silver Wolves and Gold Wolves, the Cubs focused on:
🔹 Silver Wolves learning the reef knot
🔹 Gold Wolves mastering the bowline

With guidance from the leaders, every Cub practiced their knots and created a knot card to take home—an awesome way to remember what they learned! 🎨

We wrapped up the evening with a Buddy Up challenge, where Cubs helped one another improve their knotting skills. It was great to see patience, teamwork, and leadership shining through. 🤝

We also said goodbye to Sarah, who has left the pack—we wish her all the very best on her next adventure. 🌟

A big congratulations to Vicky, who was officially declared Sixer of Red Six—well deserved and earned through hard work and leadership! 👏🐺

The night ended with our Grand Howl, announcements, and celebrating achievements with badge awards. 🏅

Well done to all our Cubs for their enthusiasm and effort—you’re well on your way to becoming knotting experts!

🌲🐾 4th Claremont Fernwood Cubs – Adventure in Newlands Forest! 🐾🌲

What an exciting evening we had on Wednesday, 15 April 2026 as our Cubs headed out on a Forest Ramble in Newlands Forest! 🌿🌳

From the moment we arrived, the energy was high and the senses were sharp. After a quick safety briefing from Akela, our Cubs jumped straight into the “Silent Forest” game, learning to move quietly and become one with nature 🤫🍃

🔍 Nature Hunt Challenge
Our Cubs explored the forest using all their senses – searching for things that were soft, spiky, smelly, and even older than the leaders (that caused some laughs! 😄).

🍄 Mushroom Identification
With Hathi’s guidance, Cubs discovered fascinating fungi, describing colours, shapes, and locations – and giving them some very creative names! (Remember: look, don’t touch 👀)

🚨 Distress Signals
An important life skill! Cubs learned three ways to signal for help and what to do if they ever get lost in the veld. Knowledge that could one day make all the difference.

🐺 Closing Grand Howl
We ended the evening reflecting on our adventure, celebrating teamwork, and embracing the spirit of scouting.

👏 Special shoutout to Duty Six: Blue for stepping up and leading the way!

🌟 Key Takeaways:
Our Cubs practised the Outdoor Code, explored nature safely, worked together, and built confidence in the outdoors – all while having loads of fun!

🌱✨ Scout Spirit in Action! ✨🌱

Today at the 4th Claremont Scouts Hall, something amazing happened… our garden got a whole new lease on life! 🌿💪

With the generous support of Storm Fencing, and a team of enthusiastic scouts ready to get their hands dirty, we transformed what was once a sad, tired-looking garden into a space full of life and colour 🌸🌼

The garden beds were definitely in need of some love, and that’s exactly what they got! From digging and planting to tidying and refreshing, our scout party showed what a little teamwork and garden empathy can do 🌍❤️

Check out the action shots and before-and-after pics to see the incredible difference!

👏 A huge WELL DONE to all the scouts who participated — your hard work truly paid off!

🔥🌭 Cubs Braai Wors Night – 18 March 2026 🌭🔥

What an action-packed (and delicious!) evening our Cubs had! From learning essential outdoor skills to enjoying a well-earned boerie roll, the night was full of fun, teamwork, and adventure 💛🐺

We kicked things off with a strong Grand Howl, before diving into some important fire safety skills—learning how to strike a match the right way (away from you, Cubs! 😉).

Things heated up quickly with a candle lighting relay, where speed AND safety were key 🕯️🏃‍♂️ The competition was fierce!

Next up, Cubs got hands-on with axemanship, learning how to safely handle an axe and prepare wood for the fire 🪓🌲

Then came the highlight of the evening… 🔥
Each Six worked together to build their own fires and braai their sausages over the coals. Nothing beats the taste of a boerie roll you made yourself! 🌭🔥

After filling hungry tummies, everyone pitched in for a quick clean-up before closing off with our final Grand Howl.

👏 Well done to all our Cubs for embracing the outdoors and learning valuable campcraft skills!

📌 Advancements covered:
🐾 Silver Wolf – Fire safety, match lighting & cooking fire
🐾 Gold Wolf – Fire lighting outdoors

🌟 As this marks the end of Term 1, we wish all our Cubs and families a wonderful, well-deserved break. Keep an eye out for updates on Term 2!

🐾 4th Claremont Cubs – Healthy Body Programme
📅 Wednesday, 11 March 2026

This week our Cubs focused on building a healthy body and active lifestyle through teamwork, sport, and fun challenges.

The evening started with the Opening and Grand Howl, where we welcomed everyone and introduced the theme of Healthy Body.

To get the energy flowing, Cubs played a lively game of Bench Ball, encouraging teamwork, quick thinking, and lots of laughter. ⚽

We then had a short discussion about important habits for staying healthy while being active:
• Working together as a team
• Showing good sportsmanship
• Being careful of sunburn and heat exhaustion
• The importance of good nutrition when doing sport or strenuous activities

The Cubs then rotated through a variety of active skill stations, including:
🌳 Tree climbing
⚽ Soccer dribbling and goal shooting
🎯 Bean bag throwing and catching challenges
➰ Hopping a figure-of-eight obstacle
🧗 Rope climbing
🚴 Bicycle riding around the hall

These activities helped develop balance, coordination, strength, and confidence, while making sure everyone had plenty of fun.

The evening ended with the Closing Grand Howl, reflections on what we learned, and reminders about keeping our bodies healthy through exercise, teamwork, and good habits.

👏 Well done Cubs for an energetic and positive evening!
