BEYOND INCLUSION SYMPOSIUM: Confronting Anti-LGBTI+ Violence and Discrimination in the South African Education System

📅 21–22 September 2026
📍 Mansfield Hall, Durban University of Technology (DUT), Durban

The two-day symposium will create a critical and inclusive space to examine the realities of anti-LGBTI+ violence, queerphobia, bullying, exclusion and discrimination within South Africa's education system.

Through conversations that bring together lived experiences, research, policy and practice, we will explore what needs to change and how we can collectively build educational environments where LGBTI+ learners and students can learn, participate and thrive with safety, dignity and belonging.

We particularly welcome applications from:
- Students and learners

- Researchers and academics
- Policymakers and government officials

It with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Ndebele family announces the Candlelight of our beloved son, friend, brother & colleague to many who knew him. Sphamandla Ndebele 'Sasha' was known for his hardwork & dedication in the catering business. He has built Le Sasha Events into a respected name in Décor and Catering. Lets come together & celebrated his creativity, impeccable attention to detail, and his ability to turn any occasion into an unforgettable experience.
Sasha was charismatic, intelligent, and deeply loving. He was hardworking, free-spirited, and always willing to help. His infectious sense of humour brought light to every room, and he was a loyal and supportive friend to many.
Through Sasha life we learned something, his artistry, his healing, and his kindness, Sasha touched countless lives. His dedication, wisdom, and service will remain the foundation of the legacy he leaves behind.

The loss of a loved one is immeasurable. During this time, the family kindly asks for compassion, dignity, and respect for privacy as we gather to celebrate his life and mourn his passing.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. May his light continue to guide us.

The Equality Court hears the case of TRANSHOPE, the Hate Crimes Working Group & SAHRC vs Ngizwe Mchunu

They are not doing this alone. Over fifty organisations stand behind this moment where human rights are being defended.

Hate has no home in South Africa. Our Constitution says so. Our communities demand it.

Productive Friday with Uthingo Network . We took time to reflect on our mission and vision, unpack the challenges we face as an organization, and map out our strategy for growth. These conversations are necessary if we want to build something that lasts.

We also celebrated our wins. It’s easy to focus on what’s next and forget how far we’ve come. Grateful to Uthingo Network for walking this journey with us. The work continues, and we’re not doing it alone.

What a day at eThekwini Pride!

We showed up, marched, and celebrated love in all its forms. Special shoutout for the Ethekwini Pride support that helped us get there — community taking care of community.

The march was powerful, the vibe was unmatched, and we’re so grateful to have been part of it.

Until next year 🏳️‍🌈

We just wrapped up our 3rd session with International Centre of Nonviolence Our team had an incredible experience diving into crucial topics that will help us grow and improve.

We explored effective communication, financial literacy, and more. Some of the highlights include principles of effective communication (verbal & nonverbal), active listening and constructive feedback, financial management for NPOs, and budgeting, record keeping, and financial accountability.

Huge thanks to ICON for the insightful session. We're looking forward to implementing these learnings and continuing our growth journey.
