At the Association of Palliative Care Centres (APCC), we recognise that mental health is an essential part of holistic care. Palliative care supports not only physical needs, but also the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of individuals facing life-threatening illness, as well as their loved ones.
Our Standards for Palliative Healthcare Services require every quality palliative care team to include a social worker or psychologist, alongside doctors and nurses. Psychosocial assessments are a routine part of care, with deeper support provided where needed by a patient or family. Mental health support isn't an add-on; it's built into the standard of care itself.
Together, we can ensure that care extends beyond the physical - honouring the full experience of every individual.
