Congratulations to the small business owners who successfully completed People Nature Connect’s small business training course. We celebrate your hard work and commitment to your businesses. To mark this milestone, we ran a networking event, connecting rural businesses with the Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency and other businesses in their area to explore opportunities.

We were happy to hear that SEDFA offers financing for small businesses without requiring them to register formally. For informal businesses, registering with the CIPC and staying legally compliant is costly, with few benefits. This networking even is part of an ongoing process in our small business programme to support over 50 rural businesses around Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park to take small practical steps to find opportunities and build relationships that support their growth.

We have been working with the Siyazisiza Trust to support local poultry businesses around Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park.

During our most recent mentoring visit, we saw that many farmers have a stronger understanding of their business and are making more informed decisions day to day. The business owners are active collaborators in this process. This approach has helped build confidence and strengthen resilience. It’s a good example of what can happen when we work together - achieving more through partnerships.

People Nature Connect and iThuba hosted our first weaving event in Mtunzini yesterday to find new ways of working together to expand tourism opportunities around the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

People from NGOs, the private sector and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife came together to review our past efforts to improve tourism, analyse our tourism ecosystem and define the first small steps to collaborate with each other.

We brought our poultry businesses together for a two-day networking event where they shared challenges, learnt from one another, and worked through solutions as a group. With technical support, they also focused on improving their chicken and egg production for local markets.

From understanding what it really takes to qualify for your dream job, to learning that not everyone starts with the same information. Sphe’s journey as a facilitator has been full of insight, emotion, and growth.
