From 10–11 June, ACCORD contributed to the African Union Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Consultative Meeting on the Review of the African Solidarity Initiative (ASI) in Cairo, Egypt.

The meeting reflected on the ASI’s vision, objectives and implementation since its launch in 2012, while assessing its continued relevance and contribution to Africa’s evolving peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction landscape.

On 9 June, ACCORD participated in the High-level Business Dialogue in Cairo, Egypt, hosted by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), the African Union (AU) and the African Business Council under the theme: Towards a Roadmap for AUC-PCRD and Private Sector Partnership: Unlocking African Private Sector Engagement and Business Opportunities.

The Dialogue explored how stronger partnerships between the AU and the private sector can support Africa’s post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts through investment, job creation and sustainable economic opportunities.

ACCORD Researcher Katharine Bebington joined the panel discussion, Beyond CSR and Donations: Strategic Investment in Peace Dividends, highlighting how meaningful private sector engagement can contribute to community recovery and long-term stability, while also creating shared value and opportunities for businesses across the continent.

As Sudan’s conflict continues with devastating consequences for its people and the wider region, questions remain about how peace efforts can be made more effective.

In this latest edition, Francis Deng and Issameldin Abbas Ahmed examine the various mediation initiatives underway and argue that greater coordination between bilateral, regional, multilateral and international actors is essential to achieving a sustainable peace.
