Sitting here quietly, trying not to wake up my precious Evils, because I really don’t need him judging my handiwork 😹
I’m busy making up the goodie bags for our Golf Fundraiser, and as those who know me will know… my mind works at a very fast pace. I’m always thinking, planning and coming up with the next idea to raise funds for our feral cat colonies..
Currently on the fundraising calendar we have:
🐾 The Soft & Wild Raffle — draw in September
⛳ Our Golf Fundraiser — early October
🧠 The famous General Quiz Night — early November
🛍️ And, of course, our Charity Shop
Am I worried? Yeah. I am, slightly 😿
Funds aren't coming in as smoothly as we wish they would, and at Jozi South Feral Cat Carers, we don't just want to ask people for donations. We like to give you something in return — a little fun, a bargain, a raffle, a great event… something that makes you feel you're getting something too😻
Looking at Evils, snoozing peacefully next to me, and his feral mommy sitting in her usual chair, I can't help but think about all the others outside.
They're not warm and cosy😿
They're out in the rain.
They're out in the cold.
They're hungry.
They're vulnerable.
I know Charlmaine, Raye and the rest of our amazing team are out there early, making sure our colonies have food and shelter.
And THIS is why I keep coming up with ideas.
Because I want them to have enough funds for food.
For a sick kitten or cat that needs a vet.
For those unexpected emergencies.
For the vet accounts to have enough in them when we desperately need them.
I want our team to be able to stay in what we call "cat mode" — looking after the cats, rather than constantly worrying about where the next rand is coming from.
I know things are tough. I see it.
Groceries are so flippen expensive.
Fuel prices aren't helping.
Year-end is getting frighteningly close.
We all have families, children and parents to think about.
So yes… I know I'm asking a lot. But I'll keep asking.
Because they can't.
They can't tell you they're cold.
They can't tell you they're hungry.
They can't tell you they're sick.
They can't ask for help.
So I have to ask for them.
