Residents using municipal services at three Cape Town facilities will need to leave their cash at home from 1 September, as the City expands its cashless payment system to Strand, Brackenfell and Kraaifontein.

This comes after the City of Cape Town confirmed the next phase of the rollout, which will see the three facilities join Table Bay Mall, Bellville MVRL and Durbanville, where cashless transactions have already been introduced as part of the pilot programme.

From 1 September 2026, customers visiting the Strand, Brackenfell and Kraaifontein Customer Interaction Centre and Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing (MVRL) offices will no longer be able to pay municipal fees with cash.

Instead, customers will need to use electronic payment options, including bank cards.

The change follows the Cityโ€™s initial cashless pilot, which began at the Table Bay Mall and Durbanville Customer Interaction Centre and MVRL offices on 1 July, as highlighted by the City. The Bellville MVRL office joined the pilot in mid-July.

Customers are therefore encouraged to make sure they have access to an appropriate electronic payment method before arriving.

Cape Town has introduced new regulations for e-bikes to improve safety along the Sea Point Promenade after increasing concerns about reckless riding. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

Announced on August 7, the City has set definitive guidelines and significant penalties for those who do not comply. Riders of electric mobility devices are required to maintain a strict speed limit of 8 km/h in all shared pedestrian zones. The City emphasizes that pedestrians always have the right of way.

Additionally, the City is finalizing technical standards for high-powered electric rental vehicles, which will include strict regulations on weight, passenger limits, and maximum speed.

CitiPods has introduced Cape Townโ€™s first dedicated rest hub for delivery drivers at Constantia Village, providing Uber Eats couriers with a much-needed space to relax, find shelter, and recharge between jobs, according to Cape {town} Etc. ๐Ÿ›ต๐Ÿ’ผ

The pod officially opened on August 14, following its installation at the Constantia shopping center in late July. This initiative is backed by Uber Eats and is tailored specifically to meet the needs of delivery workers who often spend extended hours on the road.

A haven to rest, connect, and rejuvenate
This thoughtfully designed pod features seating, phone charging stations, as well as toilet and hand-washing facilities. A Pod Manager ensures the area is cleaned daily, while security safeguards it overnight.

The Constantia Village website indicates that the center is located at the intersection of Constantia Main and Spaanschemat River roads. For further details, visit the CitiPods website at www.citpods.co.za.

Letโ€™s not forget about our furry friends this winter! โ„๏ธ

The cold can be challenging for pets and wildlife alike. If you know someone who is having a hard time providing for their animals this season, consider donating pet food, blankets, or other necessities. ๐Ÿพ

Animal shelters and rescue organizations frequently seek additional blankets, food supplies, and financial assistance during the chilly months.

The key is to begin where you are. Take a look around your home and neighborhood. Reach out to local charities to learn what they need. Every little bit helps โ€“ whether itโ€™s a warm blanket, a meal, an hour of your time, or a small donation.

You might be feeling the chill, but your kindness can help make winter a little cozier for others! โค๏ธ

โ™ป๏ธ Did You Know?

Bingo wants you to know that litter left on our streets often ends up in stormwater drains and eventually flows into rivers, wetlands, and the ocean. ๐ŸŒŠ

When we neglect to dispose of our waste properly, we contribute to a cycle of pollution that harms aquatic life and degrades our beautiful natural ecosystems. Every piece of litter picked up or placed in a bin helps protect Cape Town's natural environment. ๐ŸŒ

Together, we can make a difference! Let's be responsible citizens and do our part to keep our streets clean and our waters clear.
