Even if it looks legitimate, it may not be.

A branded delivery van parked outside your home may not be legitimate.
A scooter with a branded delivery box may not be legitimate.
Someone posing as a fundraiser, service provider, or a rough sleeper asking for help may not be legitimate.

Please be extremely mindful of who you allow onto your property or into your home.
Ensure that your domestic staff, gardeners, and everyone in your household are also aware and vigilant.

Criminals are increasingly using disguises and impersonation tactics to gain access to homes and properties.

If you are not expecting a delivery or visit:
• Verify before opening
• Ask for identification
• Confirm with the company directly where possible
• Do not allow access based purely on branding or appearance. Sometimes all is not what it seems………

Stay alert, trust your instincts, and protect your space.
A vigilant community is a safer community.

Great example of community in action!

It was encouraging to see a recent post on one of our street WhatsApp groups where a neighbour noticed an open garage door and flagged it. Thanks to the quick response and care shown by neighbours and others close by, it was confirmed that the owners were away and the garage door was faulty.

If it weren’t for this great sense of community spirit and good neighbourliness, that garage could have been emptied out by an opportunistic thief.

This is exactly what makes our neighbourhood strong, looking out for one another, staying alert, and stepping in when something doesn’t seem right.
Let’s continue to be the eyes and ears for each other.

Your neighbourhood needs you!

Safety and security is paramount as we go into the silly season and the Sunset Beach Neighbourhood Watch (SBNW) encourages you to be a part of ensuring that our suburb is a family-friendly and a safe place to live.

SBNW objectives are to:
- Build a sustainable membership
- Optimally engage members to assure proper and consistent resourcing for governance, management and operational activities
- Assure consistent visibility in an efficient and effective manner
- Render reliable support to residents, authorities and other stakeholders
- Assure consistent and accurate flow of information to and from residents

Don’t think it’s just about patrolling the streets - there are plenty of other ways you can help out such as administrative support to the committee, emergency response where external services (SAPS, medical, etc) are required, operational management, etc.

You can also become a Friend of SBNW, which involves joining Buzzer, contributing financially to sustain and improve the neighbourhood watch, or offer any other skills you think will be of use.
