Introduction
In Touch Community Upliftment Projects, established on 10 July 2017, is a non-profit organisation based in the Glencoe / Dundee area of Kwazulu-Natal, serving the communities of Glencoe and Dundee. Mission
Our aim is to assist needy people in the social context, regardless of colour, creed, background or s*x, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, with th
eir immediate needs, and along every step of the way in order to become self-sufficient and once again take their rightful place in society, and to firmly establish In Touch as a developmental welfare organisation that continually strives to improve the quality of life and fight poverty. Vision
The Organisation concentrates on assisting people who cannot take care of themselves, educating the youth about s*x, pregnancy and HIV/AIDS, provide skills training on a broader scale, rebuilding or reshaping people to once again become whole, learning to maintain a balanced life, spiritually, socially, physically and mentally to function as a contributing member of society. To achieve this the organisation functioning either on its own or in partnership with other stakeholders in the community, endeavour to first and foremost provide as many as possible needy persons and people living on the streets with at least one meal a day, toiletries and cleaning materials and assistance in obtaining the proper medical care when necessary. We also attempt to reconcile people with their families, and to find suitable employment through skills development projects, and the placement of candidates with firms. The organisation thus serves as a microcosm in which people can rehabilitate, train and adjust at their own pace, while their basic needs are being catered to, thus enabling the individual to concentrate on the task at hand, which is training and preparation to be re-absorbed in mainstream society. In order to achieve our goals, we are completely dependent on the community. Our Organisations Specialist Work and Projects
In Touch Community Upliftment Projects is a registered Non-Profit Company registered with the Department of Trade and Industry. Our projects fall into two divisions, the first being fund raising (eg. through the sale of products from one of our projects) and the second being funds distribution and service delivery, an example of which would be the provision of food parcels, or access to the job market. We identify the skills that our people have, and according to their skills, abilities and ambition give them the opportunity to partake in one of our existing projects, or start their own business venture. Furthermore, we will be providing public access internet terminals, thus enabling members of the community to do research for studies or searching for employment, a skill that the Organisation shall also provide free of charge. We shall also assist those unable to do so themselves to apply for any SASSA grants that they may qualify for, by explaining the processes to them and liaising with SASSA. The Organisation will also constantly liase with other NGO’s, PBO’s, Government Departments and the media on matters pertaining to the welfare of the community. In Touch Community Upliftment Projects will also assist with referrals to the available NGO’s, PBO’s and Government Departments dealing with the specific need of the community member, for example referrals to shelters, crisis centres, substance abuse treatment facilities, facilities caring for the aged to name a few, acting as a hub for the sharing of information between all stakeholders in the community, whether individuals, organisations or the business community. What we are asking for is your support of our projects, which have been developed to assist the community, individuals, business and government in working towards achieving a better life for all. Marketing
One of our greatest challenges at present is to create an awareness of the Organisation and its work in the community and business community. We shall start to address this by launching a door-to-door campaign to inform the public and business community of our work, vision and goals. We shall also be launching a media campaign through the local print media, e-mail marketing and creating a web presence for the organisation by setting up a website, Twitter profile and Facebook profile, where supporters and donors can keep track of what we are doing. Summary
By supporting our projects, you are investing in the future of, and making a tangible difference in the lives of people. By touching the life of one person you are making a positive difference to the lives of many more people who are in turn affected and influenced by this one person being given another chance, and taking up a role as a fully functional member of society. Consider this: what would the impact be if there were less hungry, destitute, impoverished and unemployed people in our country, and how would that influence you personally in terms of the high crime rate, poor service delivery, corruption and social decay? Our Main Project
We need a base to operate from. These premises will be used for training, such as Basic Adult Literacy, Basic Computer Skills, Sustainable vegetable gardening and assistance with education in, and establishing entrepreneurial businesses and the other functions of the organisation already mentioned in this introduction. All directors of the organisation are volunteers, and the setup cost of the organisation is currently paid in its entirety from limited personal funds. Our company accounts are open for inspection to any interested party at all times. A long term project of ours is to restore the old Railway Institute in Glencoe as a community project which can serve as a community centre and training centre. Any donations will be welcomed. We do not do door-to-door collections with lists. We’ll forward a list of equipment needed at a later stage. Cash donations into our bank account will be welcome. Donations that qualify in terms of Section 18A as specified by the South African Revenue Service will be issued with a Section 18A receipt for tax deduction purposes of the donor.
