In South Africa alone there are more than 30,000 volunteers. The word Scientology means knowledge. It is completely non-denominational.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers is one of the largest humanitarian volunteer community development and disaster response organizations in the world with 2.1 million volunteers across 190 countries from all sectors. cross 196 countries from government, non-government, religious and private sectors. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers include religious leaders from all faiths, religions and spiritual traditions. Its purpose is to empower people no matter their race, colour or religion. In South Africa, it operates as a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO number 246-207) and a Section 18a Public Benefit Organization (PBO number 930069229). Additionally, it is an accredited Skills Development Provider with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and an accredited training provider for the South African Council of Educators under SACE Provider Number NG000000788. It is a B-BBEE Level 2 organization.
