Standards: Training and Certification
1. The OAA aims to offer member-focused training that raises competency in overlanding skills, including off-road and 4x4 driving, vehicle recovery, terrain preparation and response, trailer and caravan towing, and related disciplines.
2. The OAA also aims to create an online academy for fitment centres, enabling technicians and fitters to qualify and certify against minimum standards for fitment quality.

Responsibilities: Ethical, Operational, and Governance Standards
1. Promote industry growth while upholding responsible travel principles.
2. Encourage appropriate conduct in neighboring countries and wildlife environments, including understanding animal behavior and protecting natural heritage.
3. Support responsible employment practices, including HR-related obligations such as UIF and appropriate insurance.
4. Promote accountability for defects and workmanship, including suitable insurance and responsibility for service quality.
5. Encourage directors to manage the organization responsibly as part of sound governance.

Networking: Member Connection and Value
1. Position networking as a marketing and connection platform for members and corporate participants.
2. Enable member-to-member and corporate-to-corporate connections that help build businesses, share advice, generate referrals, and support members through challenges.
3. Provide member-value opportunities, including access to relevant industry events and other association benefits.
4. Offer members discounted products and services from participating suppliers in the overlanding industry.

Overlanding is a privilege enjoyed by people around the world, and Southern Africa offers exceptional opportunities because of its extensive wilderness areas and rich biodiversity.

However, these wilderness areas, and the fauna and flora within them, face numerous and complex challenges that are difficult for governments and formal institutions to address alone.

Members of the public who visit these areas, together with businesses operating in the overlanding industry, have a responsibility to ensure that their actions and practices do not negatively affect overlanding destinations, natural environments, or surrounding communities.

The OAA was established to coordinate the efforts of overlanding enthusiasts and industry participants in preserving overlanding, promoting responsible practices, and supporting the continued enjoyment of the destinations where it takes place.

The OAA was also established as a platform to facilitate and promote networking between overlanding members and the overlanding industry participants as a community to ensure enhanced communication and the availability of information to the benefit of all stake holders.

What is the OAA?

The Overlanding Association of Africa (OAA) is a non-profit corporation led by a board of directors from various sectors of the overlanding industry.

Membership is open to businesses operating in the overlanding sector, as well as members of the public who participate in and support overlanding across Southern Africa.

The OAA provides its members with a platform to contribute actively to the responsible preservation and enjoyment of overlanding.
