This poor girl Sarafina was rushed to Hoedspruit Animal Hospital - ProVet today. While she looks perky on the picture, she is actually in an extremely compromised condition. She came in with a pr*****ed uterus while pregnant which has been left unnoticed by the owner for a week and a half (😡) before they phoned us.
She had to get an emergency steri and before she went into surgery the blood tests revealed a lot of very serious issues: babesia, ehrlichia and an infection of sorts as well as TVT. The fact that this dog is still alive is a miracle on its own and testament of the strength of these community dogs.
She is a real fighter and we all decided we need to give her that chance. She came out of surgery just now and all went well but her recovery will sure take a while. A big thanks to Dr Olivia and the team of Hoedspruit Animal Hospital for their outstanding work and care.
She will remain hospitalised until further notice, then we first treat her tickbite fever and infections before we can cure her cancer (which is very treatable).
