Tim Modise to deliver Homecoming Public Lecture at North West University.
Join us tomorrow Monday (6th October 2025) as legendary broadcast icon Tim Modise delivers his homecoming Public Lecture at the North West University in Mahikeng, where he began his broadcasting career at Radio Bop before joining Radio Metro and later other major broadcasting houses in Gauteng.
The lecture, themed on the Broadcast Media as a Cultural Expression of the Democratic South Africa", will see Mr Modise share his perspectives on the role of Broadcast Media in post - Apartheid South Africa with University student community.
Mr Modise is a well-known veteran Radio and Television broadcasting legend in South Africa.
He is widely respected for his journalistic integrity, professionalism and broadcasting service to the South African nation for more than 30 years on different broadcasting platforms.
He began his broadcast media career as a sound technician for Radio 702, later a Music Radio Deejay for Radio Bop, before becoming a News and Current Affairs Journalist and Political Anchor for both radio and television on various broadcast media stations.
He has hosted a variety of music and talk show programmes on various radio and television stations as well as special broadcast on 1994 Elections, 1999 Elections and the State of the Nation Presidential Interviews.
He is best remembered in North West (formerly Bophuthatswana) for been a popular presenter with Radio Bop in early 80’s (here in Mafikeng) where he left an indelible mark before transiting to talk show host with Metro FM.
During his broadcasting career, Mr Modise worked for SABC TV and Radio, BBC, 702, M - Net Carte Blanche, Soweto TV, Business Day TV and eNCA , amongst others,
Modise hosted on various media platforms programmes such as Good Morning South Africa, Agenda, Lekgotleng le Modise, Modise ka 9, SAFM PM Live, The Tim Modise Show, Jungle Fever, Joyride and Metro Talk, and many others.
Tim Modise remains a towering, pioneering figure in the South African broadcasting industry.
He has been named, amongst others:
Ø SABC Broadcaster of the Year 1991
Ø Inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, South Africa 2011.
Ø He helped launched a Gauteng based Black - owned Radio Station Power FM.
Ø He recently participated in the SABC Radio and Television News 75th Anniversary in July 2025.
Mr Modise has utilized his powerful media personality as a political analyst, moderator and conversationalist on numerous media platforms and summits to foster understanding, promote national dialogue, encouraged racial and political tolerance, public – private sector engagements desperately needed in the socio-economic transformation of the country.
Mr Modise currently provides Media Training and Business Consultancy Services to government, private sector companies, business leaders and corporate executives in South Africa. He also host the Tim Modise Podcast in Midrand.
