United Way South Africa (UWSA) is a non-profit organisation that unites and connects all sectors of society-individuals, business, non-profit organisations and governments - to create long-term social change. We envision a nation where all individuals and families achieve their full potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. Our focus in on education, income and health- the building blocks for a good quality life. We help children and the youth achieve their full potential. economic opportunities and success. We also improve access to quality healthcare and improve overall health and wellness of individuals. UWSA creates a platform for collaboration between all relevant stakeholders in order to leverage, aggregate, support and expand common development programmes for disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. United Way South Africa, in partnership with Cummins, celebrated International Day of the Girl Child at Ben Hlongwane Secondary School in Mokopane on 9 October 2026.

Guest speaker Sthe Cherity Mashele, a registered nurse, engaged learners on gender equality, allyship, breaking stereotypes, STEM opportunities, respectful relationships, and girls’ rights.

🌍💚 Small Actions. Big Change. Stronger Communities.

On 10 October 2026, United Way South Africa joined dedicated volunteers and Water Warriors in Alexandra for A Day of Caring, working along the Jukskei River to remove litter, restore green spaces and promote responsible waste management. 🌱

As we marked World Mental Health Day, we were reminded that caring for our environment also means caring for our well-being. Clean, safe spaces help foster connection, belonging and healthier communities.

💙 A heartfelt thank you to Water Warriors, our volunteers, community members and the United Way team for making a difference!

Our Team Just Got Bigger! 🎉

United Way South Africa is excited to welcome 11 new interns to our growing team, in partnership with EduNova and Shilova!

Our interns bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm and diverse skills across Information Technology, Marketing & Communications, Business Operations, Project Management, and Monitoring & Evaluation.

We recently held an onboarding session filled with introductions, laughter, connection and interactive activities. It was wonderful to see the different personalities, strengths and talents each person brings to the team. ❤️

For us, this internship is about more than workplace experience. It is about creating opportunities for young people to learn, contribute, build confidence, develop their skills and gain meaningful exposure to the world of work.

We are grateful to EduNova and Shilova for their partnership and for connecting us with these talented young people.

We look forward to seeing our 11 interns learn, grow and contribute to creating lasting change in our communities.

💙 What if every corporate partnership included not only funding, but people?

At United Way South Africa, we believe sustainable community impact happens when resources, expertise and people come together around a shared purpose.

Our recent day at Sedibeng Special School in Lephalale, together with Cummins volunteers, brought this to life.

Three teams. Three areas of support. One shared commitment to helping every learner thrive.

🌱 Sustainable agriculture — planting trees and seasonal vegetable seedlings to support food security, practical skills and sustainability.

🎧 Inclusive education — supporting the development of a sensory-support room for learners with special educational needs.

🍎 Learner wellbeing — preparing 150 snack packs for learners.
But the impact went beyond the activities. It was about giving time, sharing skills, listening, learning and working alongside the school community.

💙 Creating opportunities for every learner to thrive.

On 14 September 2026, United Way South Africa joined educators at Sedibeng Special School in Lephalale for practical training in the school’s new sensory-support room.

We explored how sensory toys, noise-cancelling headphones, weighted vests and sensory dens can help learners with special educational needs regulate sensory stimulation, feel supported and engage more comfortably in learning.

But the impact goes beyond the equipment.
✨ We’re building the capacity of educators.�✨ We’re creating more inclusive learning environments.�✨ We’re helping remove barriers that can prevent young people from reaching their potential.

Through our Youth Opportunity impact area, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to participate, learn and succeed.
When we remove barriers to learning, we open doors to opportunity. 🇿🇦💙
