The WiE Women in Energy Entrepreneur Pitch Challenge is open for applications and this is a platform worth taking seriously.

On 5 September 2026 at ULP House in Midrand, selected women-led businesses will take the stage at a live pitch showcase designed to help founders pitch, connect and unlock real growth opportunities.
If you are building a business that addresses energy access, the just transition, sustainability or climate solutions in Africa your idea belongs in this room.

Applications close 15 August 2026.
To stand out in your pitch keep these five principles in mind. Lead with the problem you solve and why it matters right now. Show your solution and the impact it creates. Some leaders build one career. Dr David Phaho has built five and brought all of them into one room.

Dr David Phaho joins the Women in Energy Summit 2026 as a speaker, bringing a career that spans science, finance, management and innovation and a track record that runs from the boardroom to the lecture hall to the policy table.

He built his foundation at Sasol across a range of roles, before stepping into the public sector as CEO of Tshumisano Trust now the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), under the National Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.

At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Dr Phaho served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, overseeing Research, Technology Innovation, Postgraduate Studies, Libraries, Partnerships and Internationalisation. Today, he leads the African Energy Leadership Centre at Wits Business School, where he directs teaching, research and innovation across energy, climate change and sustainability. He also sits on the Advisory Board for the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies at Stellenbosch University, and has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Boards of Foskor (Pty) Ltd and Pikitup Johannesburg.

Dear ULP Family,

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear sister, Dineo Simelane (nèe Mokoka), who went to be with the Lord.

Dineo was one of the very first ULP Vision Partners, faithfully serving alongside us during the formative years of Unleashing Leadership Potential. Her willingness to serve, her humility, and her unwavering commitment to the vision helped lay the foundation upon which ULP continues to grow today. Her contribution will forever remain part of our story.

Dineo was also the beloved sister of our Deputy Chairman and former CEO, Theo Mashego. During this time of deep loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Theo, the family, and all who knew and loved Dineo.

As the ULP family, let us unite in prayer, asking the Lord to comfort the family with His peace and strength.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

We encourage everyone to keep the family in your prayers and, where possible, to reach out with messages of love, encouragement, and support.
