One Step at a Time June 15, 2026

As Jesus prepared to return to heaven after His resurrection, the disciples eagerly asked about the next step in God’s plan. Even though Jesus had already given them their mission and told them their next step, as we so often do, they ran ahead of Him in their thinking. What has God told you to do to make disciples?

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”—Acts 1:10-11

Prayer: Lord, when I, like the disciples, ask You about things I don’t yet need to know, remind me to faithfully do the things You have already revealed. I want You to find me faithfully serving You when You return. I pray in this in Your name, Amen.

Are You Willing? June 12, 2026

Jesus’ starting point for ministry typically seems to be the needs of people. Consider His compassion in feeding the 4000 and 5000, healing the blind and lame, and answering the questions of ordinary people. Has He not called you, His follower, to do likewise? Who will you minister to at their point of need today?

A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.—Mark 1:40-42

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being willing to meet me in my need just as You met the l***r in his need. Your willingness to heal, to forgive, to cleanse, and to restore reveals the Father’s heart. Give me a willing heart so that I, too, can serve people at their point of need. I ask in Your name, Amen.

When Leading is Messy June 10, 2026

Have you considered the messiness of Jesus’ leadership style? Rather than simply imposing His God-given vision and values on others, Jesus worked, walked and lived with ordinary people. By sharing His life with them and meeting them at their point of need, He taught them by example and through experience. Serving, leading and influencing people was messy and time-consuming for Jesus, just as it is for us. Remember though: We don’t walk alone; Jesus walks with us.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.—Psalm 16:8

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for walking with me through the ups and downs of learning to lead like You. When it gets messy, when interruptions come, when I fail, when people resist the vision I believe you’ve given me, remind me that You are with me and focus my eyes on You. I pray in Your name, Amen.

Passion May 25, 2026

What are you passionate about? Passion is important in life. Passion for the things of God motivates and inspires. Jesus was known for His passion, His zeal, for God’s reputation and God’s people. Yet passion alone can mislead, and unchecked, can tempt us to choose based on what feels good in the moment. Passion inspired by God will be grounded in and guided by God’s Word and God’s Spirit. Is your God-given passion flagging? Fan it into flame through prayer.

Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way!— Proverbs 19:2

Prayer: God, my passion for You can ebb and flow like the tide, deleted by the demands of life and servanthood, or fanned by success. Don’t let me put my trust in passion, but in You. Fan my passion and strengthen me to walk in Your way through Your Word, Your Spirit, and prayer. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

When Serving Requires Courage May 22, 2026

What characteristics come to mind when you think of a servant? Do you think of courage? When Jesus faced Pilate, He displayed great presence of mind and steadfast courage, as did Stephen when facing the religious leaders, along with many faithful witnesses throughout the centuries. Christ-like courage springs from confidence that we have been called by God and are empowered by His Spirit. Where is He calling you to serve with confidence and courage?

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”—Hebrews 13:6

Prayer: Lord, You are my helper. What an amazing thought! You come to my aid, infusing me with confidence and courage to serve Your purposes in every circumstance. When fear rears it head, when my faith falters, encourage my heart and strengthen me to serve You courageously. I ask in the name of Jesus, Amen.

When Pressure Builds May 20, 2026

When Jesus went to pray at Gethsemane, He knew the struggle that was ahead of Him. He needed time with His Father, and He needed the spiritual companionship of His closest disciples. Where do you turn when pressure builds?

They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”—Mark 14:32-34

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me how to live in every season of life, including times of great pressure. Your example reminds me that when struggle comes, I can turn to the Father for help. Remind me to share my burdens with others, and help me point them to the Father in times of stress. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Trust Starts With the Leader May 18, 2026

Who do you trust? Who trusts you? Jesus showed Himself trustworthy with God and with people. He could be trusted to honor and obey God, and to speak God’s truth in every situation. Jesus demonstrated godly character, commitment, competence, and concern throughout His life. Because of how He lived and how He interacts with us even now, we know we can trust Him. How will you build trust with others today?

Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.—John 14:11

Prayer: Jesus, You have poured out Your grace toward me. I know that You have come from the Father, and that I can trust You to lead me in in His ways. I want to honor and obey the Father. Help me to follow in Your footsteps today, building trust with those around me. I ask in Your name, Amen.

How Are You Praying? March 9, 2026

How are you praying for others? Jesus prayed for His disciples, the crowds who came to hear Him and see His miracles, and for those who would be impacted by the disciples’ ministry—that’s us! He told His disciples to pray in His name, asking the Father for whatever we need in order to extend the Kingdom. For who are you praying and what are you asking God to do? Don’t stop!

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.—Colossians 1:9

Prayer: God, I come to You in Jesus’ name today, realizing that people don’t need more of me, they need more of You. I lift up the people in my life, those You have called me to serve in. Meet them where they are, make Yourself real to them, and work in ways that reveal Your power. Heal, forgive, restore, challenge, strengthen, soften, motivate, and encourage them. Use me as Your instrument, I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
