🦁🐶 😺UNVEILING OF THE COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE – LIONS CLUB OF MIDRAND LEGACY PROJECT 🦁
On 16 June 2026, the Lions Club of Midrand proudly unveiled a commemorative plaque in honour of our beloved late Club President, Lion Barbara Hocking, whose life of service, compassion, and leadership continues to inspire us all. 🌹🐾
Following Barbara’s passing on 31 October 2025, her family requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lions Club of Midrand to establish a Legacy Project that would reflect her passion and values.
Barbara had a special place in her heart for animals, and it was therefore fitting that the Club partnered with Woodrock Animal Rescue to create a lasting tribute in her memory. Through the generosity of family, friends, fellow Lions, and members of the community, funds were raised to purchase a medical autoclave for Woodrock’s Veterinary Theatre. 🏥🐕🐈
This vital piece of equipment will serve countless vulnerable animals for years to come, quietly making a difference every day—just as Barbara did throughout her life.
At the unveiling ceremony, Lion President Donovan reflected:
"We knew that the best way to keep Barbara’s spirit alive was to channel our loss into something that would do tangible, lasting good. This project is a fitting tribute to a woman who spent so much of her own life quietly making the world a safer, kinder place."
The commemorative plaque now stands as a permanent reminder of Barbara’s unwavering dedication to service, her love for animals, and the enduring impact one person can have on a community. ❤️
To everyone who contributed towards this project and joined us on this special day, thank you. Your generosity has transformed grief into hope and ensured that Lion Barbara’s legacy will continue to touch lives for many years to come. 🌟🐾

Today, 16 June 2026, the Lions Club of Midrand proudly honours the 50th Anniversary of Youth Day.
We remember the bravery and sacrifice of the young people of 1976 whose voices helped shape the future of our nation. Their courage continues to inspire generations to stand up for what is right and to strive for a better tomorrow.
As Lions, we recognise that the fresh ideas, boundless energy and passion of our youth are the future of our communities and our country. By investing in, empowering and supporting young people today, we are helping to build stronger leaders and a brighter future for all.

🦁🎉 Today at the Lions Club of Midrand General Business Meeting, we took time to celebrate the achievements of the 2025–2026 Lions year while also looking ahead with excitement to what promises to be an incredible 2026–2027! 🎊
👀 Watch this space as we embark on a year of "Monkey Business"! 🐒
Before anyone starts thinking we're up to a bit of skullduggery 😉, our theme is all about the effective management of delegation, empowering our teams, and applying strategic thinking to ensure we focus on what matters most. It's about every member taking ownership of "their monkey" 🐵, embracing responsibility, and working together to achieve even greater impact in our community.
💡 By sharing the load, supporting one another, and avoiding becoming overwhelmed by team-driven, low-level tasks, we'll create a stronger, more effective club and continue making a meaningful difference.
❤️ And because Lionism starts young, we were delighted to have Lion Cub Lesedi attend today's meeting. It was wonderful to see the next generation of service-minded leaders already being introduced to the values of Lions and community service. 🦁👶

🌟 Last but definitely not least – breaking news! 🌟
We are delighted to announce that Prospective Lion Lillian Mutunga will be inducted into the Lions Club of Midrand on 26 July 2026! 🦁💛
From day one, Lillian has jumped in boots and all, embracing every opportunity to serve with enthusiasm, dedication, and a wonderfully calm, can-do attitude. 👏✨
She participates wholeheartedly in our projects, serves with passion and vision on the Leo Sub-Committee, and consistently brings fresh ideas and positive energy to everything she does. 🌍🤝
And if that wasn't enough, she is also a quizzer of note 🧠🏆 – proving that knowledge, service, and fellowship are a winning combination!
We are incredibly excited to officially welcome Lillian into our Lions family and look forward to many years of service, leadership, and fellowship together. 🎉🦁

Featured here is Lion Bothwell Chegovo! 🦁
These days, Bothwell seems to have gone a little MIA, spending more time working hard and perfecting his golf swing on the fairways than joining us at club activities. ⛳🏌️‍♂️
We fondly remember the active and dedicated Lion he has always been and sincerely hope that he will soon return to the fold, bringing back his energy, fellowship, and commitment to service. 🤝💙
Of course, no post about Bothwell would be complete without mentioning his legendary braai skills! 🔥🍖 A true braai master who knows his way around the coals and has kept many Lions and customers at the Cars In The Park well-fed over the years.
