More than 80 built environment professionals from across Africa gathered in Swakopmund last week to discuss the future of quantity surveying, with industry leaders calling for greater adoption of digital technologies, sustainable construction practices and regional collaboration.

Hosted by the Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS) in partnership with the Association of African Quantity Surveyors (AAQS), the INQS & AAQS Conference 2026 brought together delegates from Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda, Malawi, Ghana, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa under the theme, "QS Quo Vadis? Technology, Transformation and Tomorrow."

Held at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre on 24 July, the conference formed part of a week-long programme aimed at strengthening professional cooperation and advancing the quantity surveying profession across the continent.

Discussions focused on the impact of artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital transformation, sustainable infrastructure, construction risk management and contract administration on the future of the built environment sector.

The Africa Association of Quantity Surveyors (AAQS) Executive Committee Meeting and the Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS) Conference were successfully held in Swakopmund, Namibia, bringing together Quantity Surveying professionals from across the African continent.

The INQS Conference, themed “QS Quo Vadis? The Future of the Quantity Surveying Profession in Africa,” was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Honourable Hans Haikali, and attended by the Mayor of Swakopmund, Her Worship Councillor Suama Kautondokwa. The conference provided an excellent platform for meaningful discussions on the future of the profession, technological advancement, and strengthening collaboration across Africa.

AAQS extends its sincere appreciation to the Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS) for their outstanding hospitality and the exceptional organisation of both the Executive Committee Meeting and the Conference. Their warm welcome and professionalism ensured a memorable and highly successful event for the African delegation.

A Week to Remember: INQS Welcomes Africa to Namibia 🇳🇦

Last week marked a truly special moment for the Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS), as we had the honour of welcoming colleagues and leaders from across Africa to Swakopmund, Namibia, for the Africa Association of Quantity Surveyors (AAQS) Executive Committee meetings.

From meaningful discussions and knowledge sharing, to professional engagement and celebrating our shared passion for the Quantity Surveying profession, the week was a true reflection of collaboration, unity and the strength of our African built environment community.
