Second chances

An 18-year-old mother gave birth to a baby while trapped in a destructive world of substance abuse and crime. Although she loved her child deeply, she began to realise that her circumstances could cause serious harm to his future.

Faced with an incredibly difficult and emotional decision, she chose to give her baby up for adoption. It was not a decision made out of a lack of love, but rather one of courage and selflessness. She wanted to give her child the safety, stability, and opportunities that she was unable to provide at that time.

Her story is one of strength and hope. By putting her baby's needs before her own, she took the first step towards changing both of their lives. Despite the pain of letting go, her decision gave her child the opportunity for a brighter future and gave her the chance to rebuild her own life.

Years later, the child has been given the opportunity to grow and thrive in a stable and nurturing environment. He has been exposed to stability, care, and support in all areas of his life, providing him with opportunities for a brighter future.

The mother, too, has been given a second chance. She is now living in a safe environment where she has the opportunity to turn her life around. She has already begun attending online classes to complete her schooling and is working towards building a better future for herself.

As part of the adoption process, a post-adoption agreement was drafted between the adoptive parents and the biological mother. This agreement allows the mother to follow her child's progress and remain informed about his development and well-being.

This is a story of courage, sacrifice, hope, and transformation. A difficult decision, made out of love, created an opportunity for both mother and child to find safety, stability, and hope. Although their journeys have taken different paths, both have been given a second chance to build brighter futures.

Rooted in Purpose ~ Growing in Impact: CMR Mpumalanga Strategic Planning 2026–2029

On 19 and 20 August 2026, CMR Mpumalanga and Limpopo came together for two days of Strategic Planning, bringing representatives from our offices across the province together envisioning the next three years.

The session brought together members of management, supervisors, senior social workers representing the various offices, and the Director of CMR Mpumalanga.

Facilitated by Lynette Wilsenach, the two days provided an opportunity to reflect on where we are, engage in meaningful discussions about the challenges and opportunities ahead, and consider how we can continue to strengthen our organisation and growing the impact of our services to children, families and communities.

Strategic planning is not only about setting goals β€” it is about coming together as a team, listening to different perspectives, building relationships and ensuring that we are moving forward with a shared purpose. The team also took part in interactive activities that encouraged communication, teamwork and a lot of fun along the way!

A very special thank you to Solid Ground Church for making their premises available to us and for going out of their way to welcome our team. Your hospitality and support contributed greatly to the success of these two days, and we truly appreciate it.

Together, we plan. Together, we grow. Together, we continue making a difference.
