GTR Main Event: Rotary charity community race held between Emalahleni to Middelburg annually. Visit www.gtr.co.za for regular updates.

Aiming to raise funding to best serve our community with special focus on children and the elderly. In 1987 the Rotary Club of Coalfields launched the first relay event against a steam train on the private Amcoal line between Wolvekrans and Witbank, which took place annually for the next five years. The decision was then taken in 1992 to relocate the race to the line between Middelburg and Witbank

, to take advantage of incorporating two of Mpumalanga's larger cities in the event, and subsequently the involvement of the four local Rotary Clubs, and so the Greatest Train Race was born. Now the largest community event in the country, this event accommodates athletes (or in fact anyone who is in good health and up for a challenge!) in various categories for running and walking. Teams of five members complete a total distance of 25km or you can go solo and complete the 15km or 32km on your own. The eager but not so fit may opt for the 4.9km fun run. A carnival atmosphere greets you at the finish where all finishers receive a medal. This is also a great team building opportunity for companies. In excess of 15 000 participants entered in 2016 which helped Rotary raise half a million Rand for charity!

Today, the Middelburg Community Police Forum would like to wish all the incredible women in our community a very Happy Women’s Day.

Today is a chance to recognise the women who make a difference every day. Mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, friends, colleagues, business owners, professionals, caregivers, community members and so much more.

We also want to acknowledge the many women who contribute to keeping our roads and communities safer, whether through SAPS. Traffic management, emergency response, Law Enforcement, community patrols. Or
Simply looking out for those around them.

Important Note Regarding Parking

Good morning
Four days to go…😁🚂

Regarding parking for the day, two main areas have been designated and open from 04:30 am.

1. Guarded Parking Area A - which will be next to the event area in Hospitaal Rd.

2. Secure Parking Area B - which is in Olifant Str next to Middelburg Primary School. As this area is provided to us by MPS, a parking fee R50.00 will be charged to which the money will go back to the school and their staff manning their area.

VIP Park Area - this is part of the event area and is only open to VIP ticket holders.

Public Bus Parking - please see Kogel Str next to Middelburg Primary School.

Athletic Bus Parking in Walter Sisulu is only for contracted buses who will be transporting all athletes. Please note road will be temporarily closed next to the provincial hospital pick the morning from 05:00 to 07:00 am to allow for more buses to leave together after which traffic will be allowed to move through. Alternative road will be Hospitaal Rd for that duration.

Reminder athletic buses leave 05:15-06:30 am

Evening Live Entertainment and Rugby Match starts from 19:00. Please use Parking A.
