On Saturday, 24 October, between 07:00 and 10:00, bring the family, bring your four-legged friend and browse a fantastic selection of indigenous plants at great prices!

While you’re there, grab a coffee, ice cream or cold drink and make a morning of it. It’s the official opening of our **Roots of the Reserves Indigenous Nursery!

Situated just outside the Riverside Reserve on Wildberry Boulevard, across from Curro Mbombela, it’s the perfect place to visit after your Saturday morning parkrun.

Opening Day:: Saturday, 24 October, 2026.
Time: 07:00 to 10:00.
Payments: Card only.

You can also grab a coffee, water, an ice-cold drink or an ice cream while you enjoy the morning.

Perhaps you’ve done a parkrun inside the Riverside Reserve or attended our Birding Day in April. But today, we want to highlight some of the hidden gems you can discover when you explore a little further.

🌿 1. The Selfie Board
Located where the parkrun starts, it’s the perfect spot to snap a photo and remember your visit.

🪨 2. Moses Rock
Take the scenic route towards the Nels River and keep an eye out for Moses Rock along the way.

🌉 3. The Bridge
On the parkrun route, you’ll come across a boom gate. Just before the boom gate, turn right and follow the path to find the bridge.

🪑 4. The Benches
There are benches at all the lookout points around the Reserve, giving you the perfect opportunity to stop, take a breath and enjoy the views.

The Roots of the Reserves Indigenous Nursery is opening to the public!

We’re getting everything ready for opening day, and today we planted some beautiful Zinnias and Petunias at the entrance to the nursery to add a splash of colour.

We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome you to Roots of the Reserves, where you’ll be able to find indigenous plants and support the conservation of our natural spaces.

🦦 Ottertober Fun Fact

Did you know that otters can hold their breath underwater for several minutes?

They are excellent swimmers and spend a lot of time in and around freshwater rivers, where they hunt for fish, frogs, crabs and other aquatic creatures.

We’re lucky to have otters right here in the Nels River in Riverside Reserve. So next time you’re exploring the Reserve, keep your eyes on the water. You might just spot one!
