PRESS STATEMENT

The South African Youth Council (SAYC) is pleased to announce that its President, Thabo Sukanazo Tsheme, will be featured in a live interview on Newsroom Afrika tonight at 20:30.

The discussion will focus on the upcoming local government elections, with particular emphasis on the youth vote and the role of young people in driving local development. As the largest demographic in South Africa, the youth hold the power to shape the future of municipalities and communities. The President will highlight the importance of youth participation in governance, the need to strengthen grassroots involvement, and the critical role of young people in advancing inclusive development.

SAYC calls upon all young South Africans to engage actively in the democratic process, ensuring that their voices are heard and their aspirations reflected in local government structures.

South African Youth Council concludes its Special National Executive Committee and mandates the President to lead the legal process in its defense in the matter of the former General Secretary, who is the applicant in the High Court of Gauteng in his bid to ask the court to reinstate him and for the decisions of the TGA to be set aside. It must be noted that this has no operational effect in the organisation yet until the judgment has been handed down. Vuyo Tologu remains the legitimate General Secretary of SAYC as per the TGA resolutions.

30 August 2026

The South African Youth Council proudly announces the successful conclusion of its 29th Anniversary celebrations, a historic gathering that reaffirmed the resolve of young people to shape the destiny of our nation. At this milestone, SAYC declared an uncompromising war against youth unemployment a crisis that continues to rob millions of dignity, opportunity, and hope.

This declaration is not symbolic; it is a call to mobilize every sector of society to confront and defeat the scourge of joblessness. Equally, SAYC reiterated the call for the establishment of the Youth Development Act, a legislative framework that will institutionalize youth empowerment, strengthen accountability, and ensure that the aspirations of young South Africans are embedded in the nation’s development agenda.

The anniversary was not merely a commemoration of past struggles; it was a decisive moment of renewal, discipline, and forward momentum. SAYC stands ready to lead a new era of youth activism, where unemployment is transformed into opportunity, and where policy becomes a living instrument of empowerment.
