Community Dialogue – Tekatako Community

🀝 Building Safer Communities Through Collective Action

On 05 June 2026, Laapeng Foundation, together with our valued stakeholders and community partners, hosted a successful Community Dialogue under the theme "Safe Communities Start With Us" at life transformation christian centre.

The dialogue brought together community members, local leaders, service providers, and stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on critical issues affecting the Tekatako community, including:

πŸ”Ή Gender-Based Violence (GBV) & Sexual Violence
πŸ”Ή Substance Abuse
πŸ”Ή Crime and Community Safety
πŸ”Ή Mental Health and Well-being

Participants were divided into groups according to these focus areas, where they shared experiences, identified challenges, explored root causes, and developed practical solutions. Each group later presented their findings and recommendations, highlighting the impact these social issues have on individuals, families, and the broader community.

The dialogue created a platform for open conversation, community participation, and collective problem-solving, reinforcing the importance of working together to create a safer, healthier, and more supportive Tekatako for everyone.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, facilitators, and community members who participated and contributed to the success of this important dialogue.

πŸ’™ Together, we can break the cycle of violence, reduce substance abuse, strengthen mental health support, and build safer communities for future generations.

πŸ“’ Throwback to an Impactful Day of Youth Engagement & Health Awareness

On 27 May 2026, young people gathered at Mapulaneng TVET Campus for the GBVF Youth Dialogue & Lenacapavir Pre-Launch, creating a platform for meaningful discussions on ending Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and promoting healthier communities.

With the support of the Mpumalanga Department of Health and Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, participants shared their experiences, proposed solutions, and strengthened their commitment to building a future where young people can thrive free from violence and HIV.

The introduction of Lenacapavir highlighted exciting progress in HIV prevention and opened important conversations about the future of youth health and wellness.

Together, we raised awareness, inspired action, and empowered the next generation of leaders to be agents of change.

πŸ’™ Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this dialogue a success.
