FROM NO SHOE SOLE TO THE TELKOM NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
A GENESIS NETBALL CLUB SUCCESS STORY
We still remember day one when our Genesis Netball Club star, Asanda Mahlanya, walked into trials with NO SHOE SOLE and still gave it her ALL.
That day taught all of us something we will never forget: greatness is not about what you have. Itโs about what youโre willing to give.
From that moment on, Asandaโs journey became our journey.
From the dusty courts of eMhlambanyatsi, through early mornings at Valencia Sport Complex, through sweat, discipline and setbacks, Asanda kept showing up.
And from 05 - 10 July 2026, that commitment took her all the way to Dr EG Jansen Hoรซrskool, Boksburg, Gauteng, where she proudly represented the Mpumalanga Ehlanzeni Netball Association U/19 team at the Telkom Netball Championships 2026.
This is what grassroots development looks like.
It starts here, with limited resources but unlimited belief.
It grows through character building, the afternoon practices, the team talks, the lessons in humility and resilience.
It is carried by teamwork - by coaches who stay late, by team management who plan and push, by teammates who train hard beside each other, and by a community that prays and supports.
Asanda did not get to nationals alone.
She carried Genesis on her bib.
She carried Mhlambanyatsi in her heart.
She carried every young girl watching from our sidelines who now knows: โIf Asanda can, I can too.โ
She came back with more than match experience.
She came back with exposure, with growth, and with proof that the future of South African netball is being built right here in our communities.
To our players: keep showing up. Pack your kit. Pack double shoes. Keep going.
To our coaches, management, and volunteers: thank you for building players and people.
To eMhlambanyatsi and all our supporters: thank you for believing in our youth.
We are beyond proud of you, Asanda.
You made Genesis proud. You made us all proud.
