African Women Without borders - AFWB African Women Need To Believe In Themselves.

African Women Without Borders is an organisation founded by African women from an array of professions and cultures, looking to engage the world and the continent on the plethora of issues facing women in the modern age. Empirical evidence reveals that although legislation endorses the equality of women there are socio economic conditions which preclude them from realising the objectives of that l

egislation. Employing the Capabilities approach which has been pioneered in feminist study by Martha Nussbaum, AFWB looks at what women are realistically able to achieve in order to give a more tangible reflection of their position in society. This approach focuses on the capability a woman has to pursue and enjoy a lifestyle of her choice as opposed to a focus on the rights bestowed upon her as a citizen of a nation, because although women may enjoy equal rights to freedom of speech, association, equal pay and the right to bodily integrity these rights are not fully realised in our societies. AFWB wants to impact this through public engagement, progressive discussion and creative programmes to educate and uplift youth of all genders.

Justice For Gabby Ndaba ✊🏾💔

Nonkululeko Gabriella “Gabby” Ndaba went missing in Boksburg on 26 May 2023. Six days later, on 1 June 2023, her body was found under a bridge, just days before her 32nd birthday. Nearly three years later, her family is still seeking answers and accountability.

Her family and advocacy groups have raised serious concerns about the handling of the investigation, including delays in tracing her cellphone while it was still active, failures at the scene where her body was discovered, missing case dockets, and an outstanding toxicology report that has left the official cause of death unresolved.

We stand with Gabby Ndaba’s family in their continued call for truth, transparency, and justice.

Please continue to share her story and keep public attention on this case.

In Memory of Entle Manzi 🕊️

Entle Manzi, a 24 year old woman from Parow Valley, Cape Town, was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to police reports, officers responded to an incident in Mark Street, Parow Valley, at approximately 00:25, where they found Manzi with fatal stab wounds. She was declared dead at the scene.

A 24 year old male, identified in court proceedings as Mihlali Tuoane, has been arrested in connection with the murder and has appeared before the Bellville Magistrate’s Court. The matter remains under investigation, and the case was postponed for a bail application.

Reports indicate that the accused was her former boyfriend.

This case once again brings attention to the ongoing crisis of gender based violence and femicide in South Africa, particularly violence perpetrated by current or former intimate partners.

The killing of women by partners and former partners continues to be one of the most urgent social justice and public safety issues in the country. Cases such as this highlight the need for stronger prevention measures, accessible support systems, and accountability through the justice process.

Justice must be pursued.

In Memory of Kwakhanya Mhlanganisi

Kwakhanya Mhlanganisi, a 16-year-old learner from Intlanganiso High School in Site C, Khayelitsha, was killed on 4 December. He was reportedly attacked by a group of teenagers who allegedly beat him with bricks and stones before setting his body alight.

A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder. Community members have described the incident as a possible hate crime. The case is currently under investigation.

According to reports from residents, the attack followed ongoing bullying and harassment. Young people in the area said Kwakhanya had been frequently targeted because of how he dressed and expressed himself. His death has caused shock and anger in Khayelitsha, with calls for justice and stronger protections for vulnerable young people.

This case highlights the continued risk faced by young people who do not conform to expected gender norms. Violence driven by prejudice, stigma, and peer pressure can escalate rapidly, especially in environments where there is limited supervision, support, or intervention.

The killing of a 16-year-old in a township setting is a reminder of the urgent need for safety measures in schools, better community awareness, and protection for children. Families, educators, and authorities have a responsibility to create environments where young people are safe from abuse, bullying, and targeted violence.

Kwakhanya’s death should not be another statistic. Preventing similar incidents requires stronger community response, education, and accountability.

Justice must be pursued.
Children deserve safety.

On Friday, 21 November 2025, women across South Africa will pause paid and unpaid work as part of the G20 Women’s Shutdown. The action seeks to demonstrate the economic and social impact of women’s absence and to demand that GBVF be declared a national disaster.

African Women Without Borders stands in solidarity with and amplifies this call for urgent structural action.
