Bill Gates told the world on NBC's Tonight Show that AI will make humans unnecessary "for most things" within a decade 🤯. He described the coming era as one of "free intelligence" where great medical advice and expert tutoring become available to everyone at no cost. Gates even predicted a two or three day work week as AI takes over manufacturing, food production, and logistics. For millions of workers around the world that statement felt less like a promise and more like a warning.
But China just pushed back hard 🌍. The Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled that companies cannot use AI as a legal excuse to fire workers. Courts made clear that AI implementation is a voluntary business decision and not a valid reason to terminate employment contracts. The ruling established a powerful principle that employers are prohibited from shifting the costs of technological change onto workers 💡. Two very different visions of the future are now colliding. One says AI replaces you. The other says that is simply illegal.
